Sabrina Carpenter has revealed she has to “tiptoe” through her life due to fears of being labelled a “terrible person” by trolls, as she reflects on her huge rise to fame in the age of social media.
The 25-year-old singer sent fans into a frenzy with the release of her new album Short n’ Sweet on Friday, and in a new interview, she said she struggles to be her “authentic” self when she’s having a bad day.
Sabrina said The Guardian:When I was a child, I just wanted to sing on stage and, with that, I hoped to make people happy.
‘And then you realize, especially with the Internet: If I’m having a bad day, or I didn’t get enough sleep, or I didn’t have enough coffee, and I say something and the tone sounds a little sarcastic, there are a million people waiting to call you a terrible person.
“You have to tiptoe between being authentic and protecting yourself, which is kind of mentally tough.”

Sabrina insisted that growing up and achieving fame in the age of social media had been difficult, but she decided not to let that affect the way she writes her music.
She added: “It’s not what I signed up for, but I can’t do anything about it when I was born. I want to be honest: I want to write about what’s happening to me in life as a 25-year-old girl. But it’s part of the process and I just have to say: OK!”
Sabrina released her sixth studio album on Friday to the delight of fans, following reports last week that she had dumped her boyfriend, Saltburn star Barry Keoghan.

Obviously, I write songs about exactly how I feel, so I guess I can’t be that surprised that people are interested in who and what those songs are about.”
She concluded: “That’s something that comes with the job.”

“I don’t want to sound biased, but I think he’s one of the best actors of this generation,” the singer said. “So being able to see him on screen with my song as the soundtrack made the video better and more special.”
Prior to his romance with Sabrina, Barry was in a two-year relationship with dental nurse Alyson Kierans, with whom he shares son Brando, who was born in August 2022, while Barry was filming Saltburn.
