Ryan Garcia tweeted one last time before his highly anticipated fight with Devin Haney on Saturday night, telling fans not to be scared by what he does in the ring.
Garcia, 25, tweeted three times Saturday morning, saying, “Don’t be scared by what you will witness tonight.”
‘I’m not talking about me doing something to get DQ. Pure boxing. This is war.
‘KILL OR KILL NOTHING ELSE. See you at the fights. This would be an event like you have never seen before. The next tweet will come shortly after the fight.”
Garcia previously reneged on promises to stop tweeting altogether or simply posting about boxing in the lead-up to Saturday night’s fight in Brooklyn.
On Friday, he weighed 3.2 pounds over the cut-off line for his fight, meaning he had to pay Haney $1.5 million after betting his opponent $500,000 for every pound he weighed.
Ryan Garcia told fans to “don’t be scared” by what they see from him in his fight with Devin Haney.
The 25-year-old took a vow of silence and said he won’t tweet until after his fight tonight.
It marks months of continually erratic behavior from Garcia, leading May to think he needed to save himself and be removed from the fight.
Demonic possession, UFOs and García’s divorce from the mother of his newborn son are just some of the topics he has touched on on social media since the beginning of March, when he first set off alarms by stating that he had died with his throat slit.
Others have wondered if it’s all part of an extremely elaborate act by Garcia to unsettle his opponent Haney, the favorite to win Saturday’s fight.
In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.Com this week, Haney insisted he did not feel distracted by his rival.
“I don’t analyze it that deeply,” he said of Garcia’s behavior. ‘I let him do what he wants and I continue to focus on myself.
‘Keep preparing, keep my blinders on, keep the tunnel vision and let him do what he wants.
‘I don’t see it as an advantage or a disadvantage. Ryan Garcia is just another opponent for me, he’s just another person on my resume. And no matter what he does, it won’t change the outcome of the fight.
‘I don’t care at all. He’s done a lot of things during this preparation and I’ve lost a lot of respect for him.”
