Federal agents investigating the death of Matthew Perry are “confident” they will be able to charge suspects involved in his fatal drug overdose.
On Friday, it was reported that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is planning to charge “several individuals” with drug distribution resulting in death or serious bodily injury.
For the first-degree felony charge, they could face a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison.
When the Friends star died at the age of 54 last year and the autopsy was later released, the Los Angeles Police Department began an investigation into the circumstances of her overdose.

According TMZAuthorities are reportedly investigating doctors for writing prescriptions “deemed outside the scope of medical necessity,” as well as Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife Brooke Mueller.
Last month, a law enforcement investigative source told People that any future action will ultimately be determined by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
TMZ also reported that the DEA agents tasked with investigating the “resulting in death” charge are reportedly the same ones who arrested the suspects and closed the case of Mac Miller’s fatal drug overdose in 2018.
A search warrant was executed on the actress, with whom Perry was reportedly “romantically involved” nearly two decades ago, after authorities questioned her “several times” about her fatal overdose, a source told the outlet.
Mueller was never arrested or handcuffed in connection with the investigations, and sources said In contact She has been cooperating with the criminal investigation.
The outlet also reported that she was not at the sober living residence she was staying at when police arrived with a search warrant in May, but that she was “completely cooperative” when she returned from working out.
In compliance with the warrant, authorities reportedly confiscated an iPhone and a laptop from him.
A source told the outlet that she remains “adamant that she had nothing to do with” Perry’s death, though the actor’s ex-girlfriend, Kayti Edwards, said she believes Perry and Mueller may have “reconnected” in his later years.

Edwards, 48, claimed Perry and Mueller began dating after meeting in Alcoholics Anonymous nearly two decades ago, around the same time she had also been dating him, according to The US Sun.
“They definitely didn’t initially meet in rehab, we all met in AA in 2006,” said Edwards, who later worked as Perry’s assistant in 2010 and 2011. “She and I were seeing him at the same time, there was no dating relationship, we were just dating.”
His death was ruled accidental and the autopsy report released in May showed the actor died from acute effects of ketamine.
Contributing factors were drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine, a prescription drug often used to treat those suffering from opioid addiction.
It was later reported that at the time of his death, Perry was receiving ketamine infusion therapy.
In December of last year, a medical expert speculated to Page Six that the actor had “likely” obtained ketamine illegally for “recreational use.”
Although Perry was receiving ketamine treatment for anxiety and depression at the time of his death, his autopsy report noted that “the ketamine in his system at the time of his death could not have been from that infusion therapy.”

In collaboration with the DEA and the United States Postal Inspector, the Los Angeles Police Department began investigating where the ketamine that “ended up playing a role” in the actor’s death came from.
At the time, TMZ reported that an ongoing investigation was seeking to determine where the actor, who spent years battling alcoholism and drug addiction, obtained the ketamine.
“Law enforcement sources tell us there is an ongoing investigation into where Matthew obtained the ketamine that ultimately played a role in his death, with the main questions being who provided the drug and under what circumstances,” the outlet reported.
It was also previously revealed that authorities had already spoken to “some key people in Hollywood” who “are known to have a history of drug use or abuse” as they “might have information leading to the source,” the report said.
