Noussair Mazraoui is available to play for Manchester United against Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday, a week after undergoing heart surgery.

Mazraoui came off at half-time of United’s final game before the international break at Aston Villa after complaining of palpitations and underwent a procedure to correct the problem.

But the Moroccan defender returned to training this week and manager Erik ten Hag confirmed he is available to face Brentford.

“Mazraoui is good news,” said the United manager. “He had an illness, but he returned to the training ground and will be available for selection tomorrow.”

Bayern Munich’s £17million summer signing could return to action immediately as United still face issues at full-back.

While Mazraoui has started all but one game at right-back this season, Diogo Dalot has been filling in on the left during the extended absences of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Both have returned to training, but Malacia has not played for United since March 2023 and Shaw since April this year.

It has been United’s problematic position for some time and Ten Hag added: “Yes, they are back but we can’t force them back and we have to do it very carefully because we don’t want them to come back and retire quickly.” .

‘We do it very carefully. We hope to do it as soon as possible because this team needs a left back, that’s for sure.”
