There are no signs of ET in the skies over Britain, Ben Wallace joked yesterday.

The Defense Secretary was asked about possible UFOs after four high-altitude objects, including a suspected Chinese spy balloon, were shot down over North America.

US officials stressed that there was “no indication of aliens or extraterrestrial activity.”

Wallace told Times Radio he had asked for “an analysis of what is happening above us in our airspace”, adding: “I will share as much as I can publicly, but I don’t see any signs of ET.”

Mr Wallace told Times Radio he had asked for “an analysis of what is happening above us in our airspace”.

The alliance’s current secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg of Norway, will resign this year and there have been rumors that Wallace, 52, could succeed him.

Asked by Times Radio if he could be a candidate, Mr Wallace said: “I love the job of being Secretary of State for Defence… But of course NATO is a great job too.”

He stressed: “We will see what happens.”

It has been claimed that Wallace could resign if he does not get more defense funding in the budget.
