A British tourist was found dead in a hostel in Bali hours after pleading with staff to change his room.

The 32-year-old, from England, told his friend he was feeling unwell before retiring to his room at the accommodation in Badung Regency on September 26.

He had reportedly planned to change rooms the next day, but never checked out the next morning.

A cleaner, Komang Ari Triwarsana, 19, said she discovered the Briton’s body when she checked on the guest at around 12.30pm on September 27.

She said she became suspicious because he still hadn’t woken up after noon. He reported the incident to hotel staff, who called the police to investigate.

The Briton's hostel is located in Badung Recency, a central province of Bali.

Ipda I Putu Sukarma, head of public relations of Badung police, said: “The witness tried to clean the room because the victim actually wanted to move rooms. It was his own request the day before.

«The witness knocked on the wall of the room several times but received no response. Suspecting that something unwanted had happened in the room, he attempted to open the curtain and was shocked to see the victim lying face down.

Police said the British man was found wearing black Nike shorts while lying face down in bed.

Liquid mixed with blood was said to be dripping from his nose and mouth. There was also discharge from his genitals and feces coming out of his anus.

Authorities said no signs of violence were found.

Inside the room were various medications and hygiene products, including Promag, Claritin and facial creams.

Hotel receptionist Dayu Novi, 24, said the man had spoken to her the night before to ask for a room change.

She said: ‘Yesterday afternoon at around 12:53 the victim’s friend, who was also staying here, sent a message to the manager asking to check on him. The request was because the victim had previously admitted not feeling well.’

Badung police said they believe the Briton was ill. He was taken to Prof. IGNG Ngoerah Denpasar General Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of his death.
