Mikel Arteta reveals fresh injury setback for Emile Smith Rowe… with the midfielder set to miss West Ham clash after suffering ankle injury in training

Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe suffered an ankle injury during training this week, Mikel Arteta has revealed.

Smith Rowe has been hampered by injuries in recent seasons and has only started two games for the Gunners this season.

The England international has not been called up for the trip to West Ham on Sunday after suffering a setback.

Before the match, Arteta told Sky Sports: “Emile sprained his ankle in training so he’s not fit to play.”

The Arsenal manager did not reveal the severity of the injury to Smith Rowe, who returned from a knee injury in December.
