Michelle Obama defends Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles over Olympic gesture called 'disgusting' by NFL star

Michelle Obama has come to the defense of Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles after NFL star Marlon Humphrey called the two American gymnasts “disgusting” for bowing to Brazilian Rebeca Andrade at the Olympics.

After Biles and Chiles made the gesture on the podium following their respective second- and third-place finishes in the floor exercise finals on Monday, Humphrey, a cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens, quoted a photo of the moment on X and wrote, “This is literally disgusting.”

But it seems Michelle has now spoken her mind about the viral snap, as the former First Lady shared on X (just 24 hours after Humphrey’s comment): “I’m still not over this beautiful moment of sisterhood and sportsmanship!

“You can feel the love radiating from these women,” she added. “Congratulations Rebecca, Jordan and Simone!”

Humphrey later came under fire on social media from Olympic watchers when one person informed him of Andrade’s history with injuries and his close ties to rivals Biles and Chiles.

“Yeah because giving flowers to someone who has come back from THREE ACL tears to still be a top-level gymnast is disgusting,” the user shared in response to Humphrey’s post on X.

Another person echoed: ‘God forbid athletes show respect to a fellow athlete who has suffered an ACL tear multiple times.’

Someone else dared to tell Humphrey to first “get to a final and win something. Then he could talk.”

“This is literally beautiful,” another user noted in contrast to Humphrey’s post.

The three-time Pro Bowler later said he felt the wrath of Brazil fans on social media, though he seemed to have forgotten that people in the South American country speak Portuguese.

“I’m freaking out right now. I think I’m being insulted in Brazilian on Instagram lol,” Humphrey shared in another post.
