A flight from Stockholm to Miami has turned around and returned to Europe after experiencing extreme turbulence over Greenland.
The Scandinavian Airlines flight, which lasts more than nine hours, was almost complete when it was forced to start its journey all the way back on Thursday due to the on-air situation.
The plane returns to a base in Copenhagen where it can be checked for technical problems. The plane is expected to land in the Danish capital in two hours, a spokesperson for the airline told MailOnline.
The spokesperson said the airline does not have the necessary equipment in Miami.
The passengers have to fly all the way back and are offered hotel rooms. According to the airline, they will be flown to Miami tomorrow.
According to Scandinavian Airlines, there are 254 passengers and one baby on board the plane. It has not been confirmed if any of them were injured by the turbulence.

The Scandinavian Airlines flight took off from Stockholm at 12:55 p.m. and was scheduled to land in Miami at 5:45 p.m. local time, but decided to return to Europe when it reached the east coast of the US.
A spokesperson for Scandinavian Airlines said: ‘The aircraft encountered severe turbulence over Greenland. It was then decided to send it back to Europe.
Some passengers posted photos on social media of the cabin during the turbulence – with items such as plastic cups, paper bags and one man’s backpack scattered across the floor.
