Martha Stewart is reportedly not too happy about a Netflix documentary made about her long career as a lifestyle specialist.

During last week’s panel at the 2024 Retail Influencer CEO Forum, she shared that filmmaker RJ Cutler was not open to her criticism, she reported. The Daily Beast.

The businesswoman also complained that the film does not capture what motivates her.

And she was frustrated that the film spent too much time on her “stupid trial” for lying about a stock market data in 2004 that led to her being jailed.

The film, which recently screened at the Toronto Film Festival, opens on October 30.

“I try not to talk publicly about things I don’t like, because it’s not good for business,” she said during an on-stage conversation with Daily Beast creative and content director Joanna Coles. She later added, referring to her documentary: “I can talk a little bit bad about it.”

The businesswoman made it clear that she did not like that the film covered so much of her “stupid trial,” as she calls it.

Stewart added that it felt “very unfair,” he said.

And he was disheartened that the film also included an interview with former Manhattan prosecutor and FBI director James Comey.

‘(Cutler) has a picture of Comey (in the documentary),’ he continued, ‘and Comey says, “Oh, she’s going to jail because she lied, not because she committed a crime,” some nonsense.

‘And below (it doesn’t say): “Comey was fired for lying.”

Comey was fired by Donald Trump in 2017 following widespread criticism of his handling of Hillary Clinton’s email and investigations into Russian election interference.

“As a documentarian, I would include that,” Stewart continued, “that’s the lazy part.”

And she wishes she’d had more say.

“I had a collaboration contract,” he explained.

“We were going to collaborate, and then he did the final editing.” He said he wanted the second half of the documentary to be modified, but the director “didn’t want to change anything.”

Stewart said that everything was going well at first: “I got along with him well at first,” and hinted that things aren’t going so well at the moment, even though they are promoting the documentary together.

The second half of Martha leaves her cold. “She doesn’t mention all my collaborations,” Stewart added.

‘I’ve had so many fabulous collaborations with thousands of wonderful, hard-working employees and like-minded people that I’m really proud of.

“I don’t think it’s fair that they didn’t even have a part in this in the story of my life. That’s what really made me who I am.”

But he may get his revenge: “There’s another chance,” he concluded, “Netflix has already asked me if I would do another one.”

This comes after the former model was accused by film critic Steve Pond of The wrapper of ‘fitting in’ and not being communicative in the film.

Pond added that Martha did not seem to want to comment on the more tender moments of her life, such as when she went to prison.

It was also claimed that Stewart appears uncomfortable in the documentary.

She is said to have quickly reviewed her successes and then dwelled on her failures. Much attention was paid to her trial when she was accused of lying about a stock market transaction. This led to her spending five months in prison.

The critic also noted that she had been silent about her personal life.

She declined to comment further on the end of her marriage and declined to elaborate on why she had an affair with an Irish man, simply saying it was “nothing.”
