Lorraine Kelly treated ITV viewers to an exclusive tour of Buckingham Palace’s East Wing on Wednesday’s show, with the presenter revealing a “secret” feature of the historic building.

The 64-year-old host offered a glimpse of the iconic balcony, staterooms and hallways, as well as revealing some of the palace’s top secrets and stories.

However, unexpectedly, Lorraine discovered a hidden passage while taking a tour of the White Room.

The presenter drew viewers’ attention to a large mirror and explained: ‘This room also hides a fantastic secret.

“If I look up here, you can see that it looks like a beautiful mirror, it’s absolutely beautiful. But there’s something very special about this huge mirror.”

Pulling open the large wardrobe opposite the mirror, he revealed that it opened onto a secret passageway leading to the Royal Family’s private apartments, which the King uses “to enter or leave the room discreetly whenever he so desires.”

Lorraine was joined on the show by guests Gyles Brandreth, Tyler West, Ellie Simmonds, Dame Floella Benjamin, Strictly’s Anton Du Beke and royal photographer Chris Jackson, who shared their own memories of the palace and the Royal Family over the years.

Tyler recalled how he fist-bumped the King and told him about jerk chicken at Brixton Market.

He admitted: ‘I forgot for a second where I was and went to punch him with my fist, but I was scared he was going to punch me, so it was a bit of an awkward interaction… and now it’s developed to where we are now – we have like a six-piece handshake.’

Speaking about her first visit to Buckingham Palace, Ellie relived the moment the late Queen awarded her an MBE at the age of just 14.

She gushed: ‘It was a wonderful experience and bringing my granny along too, she loved the Queen… I was quite nervous to meet her, really nervous’ before Tyler joked: ‘You couldn’t have screwed it up any more than I did.’

Speaking fondly of her interactions with the late Queen, Dame Floella said: ‘The Queen, what a wonderful woman she was.

‘He was like a walking encyclopedia: he knew everything about everything… He had a great sense of humor.

“I think it was a shame that the general public didn’t really know the real Queen. She was full of life, she was a real-life comedian, she loved to imitate other people and she loved to tell stories.

“She shared so many stories with me that I felt very honored to have been able to see that side of her.”

Meanwhile, Anton, Before roping Lorraine into dancing, he revealed that he has always been Queen Camilla’s “favourite professional dancer” and that dancing at Buckingham Palace will always be a real “life moment” for him.
