The video begins with Ballerini, who filed for divorce from her ex-husband Morgan Evans after nearly five years of marriage in August 2022, lying on the beach sand, wearing a pale pink dress.

“I like the feeling of running with the wind/That’s why I went and did what I did/He and I had our guns pointed/Damn, that confrontation was embarrassing,” he sings in the first verse.

Later, Kelsea meets her other half on the beach, singing the chorus: “I rode off into the sunset/ The red dust hadn’t lifted yet/ I thought I knew all the ropes/ I thought I could ride like a pro.” ‘

‘I never knew I’d have a second round/ I fell, baby, but I found you/ Take my heart, but take it easy/ ‘Cause this ain’t my first rodeo.’

Throughout the video there are shots of Kelsea and Chase holding hands and him giving her a kiss on the forehead, as well as the blonde beauty riding a carousel and then a boat.

‘Let them run, baby, don’t stop your horses/ Love is the wild, wild west, you don’t have to tell me that/ But when you hold me, I don’t care/ You make me forget about the last time,’ he sings.

The romantic number continues with Kelsea expressing that whatever the future holds, it’s worth the risk.

‘Though we never know/If we’re going to make it out alive/But when it comes to you and me, I can’t not try/Isn’t it crazy, baby, how I’d never know you/If I never rode/into the sunset.’

At one point, Ballerini sings on the beach while sitting on a pile of luggage. He later arrives at a hotel room, where he drinks a martini glass and watches a rodeo on a big screen.

The singer promoted the new clip on her Instagram, writing: “The first rodeo is about accepting fragility, hope and getting back on the horse.” The video is available now and features the handsome human who inspired the song and made me love sunsets again.

In another post, she shared several stills from the video, including one of her and Chase holding hands, as well as some behind-the-scenes footage, and wrote: ‘The first rodeo video is now available today on 4ct. FAVORITE LYRICS…WOW!’

She also shared a clip of her and her friends dancing to the song on a boat. The star went on to post a note with the song’s handwritten lyrics.

Ballerini said that after a public breakup, it’s common to feel emotionally drained and insecure about love and relationships in a statement with People.

“Listen, there is a reality where an internal monologue after a public breakup is: “I feel exhausted on the heart front. “I feel like I don’t know how to do this anymore,” he shared.

“But at the end of the day, choosing love is more important, and the honesty of saying please take it easy and be patient with me can be a beautiful, connecting moment.”

“First Rodeo encapsulates that conversation, and even more so, that internal decision to be vulnerable and open and allow the hope of it all to seep back in.”

He previously teased the video in a TikTok video this month.

‘This song is probably the first love song I wrote for this album. I was so ready to update my life and this song is really the only callback to something from the past. It’s really just to inform the song… Then it takes you meeting someone and knowing that you’re a little fragile and a little scared, but at the end of the day, you love love and you want to give it a chance.’

The singer began dating the actor in early 2023 after she slid into his DMs and ‘just dove right in.’

“It’s been such a big, beautiful part of my life for almost two years,” Ballerini revealed to PEOPLE at the Glamor Women of the Year Awards on Tuesday in New York City.

“I am very proud of the art he has inspired,” she explained. ‘And I’m very proud to be with someone who also tells the truth in his own art. And to be aligned in that way and share parts of our relationship and that kind of thing, so openly and voluntarily, is really beautiful.”

The singer-songwriter’s fifth album, which consists of 15 new songs, is said to delve into themes such as love, vulnerability and female friendships.
