Katie Holmes will be getting on a plane soon.
The Hollywood movie star is heading to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to visit his daughter Suri Cruise while she is studying at Carnegie Mellon University, a private college, a source told DailyMail.com.
This is because September 27 and 28 is family weekend, and Katie can visit her only son then.
Tom, from whom Suri is estranged, will not be there, even though – as DailyMail.com reported last week – he is paying for her tuition as their divorce settlement stipulated that he was to cover all of Suri’s education.
“Katie is looking forward to visiting her daughter at school, she’s happy for her and wants to be a part of it,” a source said. “Katie attended Columbia University for a while and loved the experience, so she’s excited for her daughter to go to college.”
Before the family weekend, Suri will have a three-day weekend with Labor Day.
The 18-year-old student moved into the dorms a week ago with Holmes’ help. Classes begin Aug. 26, according to the school website.

This is because in 2012, when he divorced Katie after six years of marriage, it was decided that he should cover all of her school expenses.
The divorce papers revealed that Tom pays for Suri’s expenses, including “medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular expenses.”
“Tom pays Suri’s tuition, he has always paid for her education and he will never stop because he is an honest guy,” a friend of Tom’s told DailyMail.com. Annual tuition at CMU is $65,000.
“He has never hesitated to pay child support and expenses for his daughter. He does not break his word. He is fulfilling his obligation.”
But he’ll likely no longer be paying Katie $38,000 a year in child support since Suri is now 18 and no longer a child.
It’s strange to think that Tom is paying for Suri’s entry considering they haven’t been photographed together in over a decade.
Their last public snapshot together was in April 2013.
Suri hinted that she doesn’t get along with her father, as she changed her last name Cruise to Noelle. Noelle is Katie’s middle name.
Meanwhile, DailyMail.com reported that Suri is looking forward to her college experience and is sharing a dorm with another student in an all-female dormitory.
“Suri wants to have the full college experience so she’s trying out the dorms and will have a roommate,” a source told DailyMail.com. “She’s excited to start a new chapter in her life.”
Instead of Homes’s mother’s luxurious three-bedroom apartment in a New York skyscraper, the teenager will be in a sparsely furnished bedroom.
He is believed to be living in Scobell House, which has a maximum of 88 students and all are women.
One of Carnegie Mellon’s highlights? The campus is home to several restaurants serving cappuccinos, croissants, pastries and smoothies. There’s also a state-of-the-art wellness center.

The complex features numerous amenities such as a TV room, a study room, a recreational area, laundry facilities and a kitchen.
Scobell is located in the WHeSco community, which includes Henderson and Welch houses. ‘WHeSco is close to many academic buildings and dining options in Resnik. Each building has a central area on the ground floor where students have access to lounges, laundry and kitchen,’ the website shared.
There is plenty of food to buy on campus, so Suri won’t go hungry while studying for final exams.
There are restaurants like Au Bon Pain bakery and cafe in Cohon Center, where Cruise can purchase chocolate croissants and soft drinks.
There is also a Ciao Bella restaurant for tasty pasta dishes like Fettucine Alfredo, also located in Cohon Center.
The Edge Café and Market at Resnik House is where Suri can get bagels and cream cheese, as well as pizza.

Katie has hinted that Suri might be studying acting and dance at Carnegie Mellon. Holmes told Town & Country magazine that after college, her daughter wants to go into show business.
Both Katie and Suri’s father, Tom, have been in the industry since they were in their early 20s.
The magazine claimed that Suri “is interested in pursuing a career in fashion or acting.” That doesn’t sound out of place. Suri starred in a high school production of The Addams Family.

And Katie has already put Suri to work on two of her films.
Suri contributed vocals to songs in two of Holmes’ films: the 2023 drama Rare Objects and the 2022 romantic drama Alone Together.
“I’m proud of my daughter,” Holmes told Town & Country of his daughter.
“Of course, I will miss her proximity, but I am very proud of her and I am happy.”
Holmes, speaking with Glamor In April 2023, he said that he has sought to encourage Suri’s performance in his projects.
“I expect him to always do something in my movies,” Holmes said. “I always ask him to do it.”
Holmes said “both experiences came from the same feeling of what I love about our industry, which is that you have these projects and you become a family with people.”
