Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania this week summed up Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominations as “God-level trolling” after a series of announcements from the president-elect continued to cause shock and even outrage.
Trump announced MAGA firefighter Matt Gaetz as his nominee for attorney general and conservative Fox News TV personality Pete Hegseth as his nominee for Secretary of Defense.
He also named former congresswoman and military vet Tulsi Gabbard, accused of spreading Russian disinformation, as his choice for director of National Intelligence.
“I would describe it as God-level trolling to cause a full-on China syndrome and own the libs forever,” Fetterman said.

In a separate post, Fetterman wrote on X that “serious, qualified individuals have been nominated for positions.”
He named Senator Marco Rubio of Florida as secretary of state, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik as ambassador to the UN, and suggested Senator Eric Schmitt as a “solid choice” for attorney general.
‘Democrats’ opinions on Gaetz aren’t that interesting,” the Keystone State Democrat wrote.
“The good ones will come from my Republican colleagues to justify a vote for this jerk,” he added.

Gaetz caused a meltdown on Capitol Hill when Trump announced he was his choice for top law enforcement official. The Florida congressman has long been vocal about the department he should lead.
The House Ethics Committee investigated the longtime Trump loyalist for sexual misconduct and illegal drug use. He was also the subject of a Justice Department investigation into sex trafficking of a minor, although no charges were ever filed.
Gaetz abruptly resigned from Congress on Wednesday evening following Trump’s announcement, just days before the House Ethics Committee was set to move forward with its findings.
It is not clear whether the commission can still release its findings as it no longer has jurisdiction over him.
Republican Senators Collins and Murkowski were among Republican senators who indicated they would oppose Matt Gaetz’s confirmation
But the Florida congressman’s nomination to the Senate faces an uphill battle.
Republican Senator Susan Collins said she would oppose his nomination. Senator Lisa Murkowski said she does not consider Gaetz a serious nomination and that she looks forward to a serious nomination.
Sen. Markwayne Mullin, who once criticized Gaetz for claiming he saw the videos the Florida congressman showed of “girls” he slept with, said the nominee should come to the Senate and put himself forward for his job to sell.
But others on the Hill defended the choice right out of the gate. Senator Tommy Tuberville claimed that Trump had a mandate from electors and threatened senators to confirm his nominees or else efforts would be made to impeach them.
