While many Democrats were at pains to salute Joe Biden for his dramatic withdrawal on Sunday, some are unhappy that the president has been “ousted” from office.

While many, including Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Harris herself, praised the decision, not everyone is in full agreement.
Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, one of Biden’s most ardent defenders since the debate, criticized the decision and those calling for the president to resign.
He laughed at the idea that Biden had been “ousted” before recently convicted New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, a frequent target of Fetterman’s ire.

Menendez was found guilty earlier this week of conspiracy to commit bribery in a widespread corruption scheme.
He was accused of participating in a foreign corruption scheme that lasted several years and allowed him to obtain gold bars, cash and a new car.
The New Jersey Democrat has yet to resign or say for certain that he will not seek re-election in November after dropping out of the party’s primary.
Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett also seemed baffled by Biden’s decision and those who wanted him out.
He posted on social media: “I hope the geniuses who ousted the most important president of our lifetime have a plan. Who the hell couldn’t sell MF’s accomplishments and beat a 34-time convicted felon who isn’t even allowed to operate business in NYS (and should therefore automatically be banned from, say, running the country) and his ENTIRE team IS project 2025? Joe wasn’t the problem… the Democrats were.”
DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison was close to tears Sunday at a meeting of the Democratic National Convention Credentials Committee.
“I’m excited because I’m still supporting Biden. I’m still supporting my president,” Harrison said.

CNN commentator Bakari Sellers, like Fetterman, was displeased with how the process was conducted.
“Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for the way President Biden was treated by his own colleagues last month. He is one of the most transformative presidents of a generation,” he wrote.
However, he admitted: “That fight is over. I dare not undertake another.”
Sellers, Harris and Crockett immediately endorsed Vice President Harris, as did Biden on Sunday afternoon, while Fetterman has not yet done so.

Chris D. Jackson, a Tennessee politician and vocal Biden defender on social media, lashed out at people who wanted the president to resign.
“I hope everyone who is against Biden is happy. You just forced the best president of our lifetimes to drop out. Whatever happens now is your fault,” he wrote.
Jackson is also a staunch supporter of Harris and endorsed her Sunday afternoon.

Biden/Harris campaign co-chair Chris Coons appeared on CBS News red-faced and crying, saying the president had made a “tough decision.”
Coons, who is also a senator from Delaware, sobbed as he stared into the distance, took deep breaths and tried to compose himself on national television.
CNN’s Van Jones also appeared emotional and tearful on air as he discussed Biden’s decision to drop out of the race and endorse Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination.
Meanwhile, on MSNBC, Rachel Maddow gave viewers a speech full of hype about how Biden’s decision is not what he would have really wanted, but rather something he did for the good of the country.
Biden announced his momentous decision in a one-page letter posted on social media, where he pledged to serve until the end of this term in January.
However, Republicans called on him to resign immediately, arguing that if he is “unfit to run for office,” then he is “unfit to serve.”
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” Biden wrote in a letter posted to his X account on Sunday.
“And while it has been my intention to seek re-election,” he continued, “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to step down and focus exclusively on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”
Moments after his announcement, Biden posted an endorsement of Harris to take over his campaign on X.
Biden announced his historic decision to step aside in a one-page letter in which he pledged to complete his term but stopped short of fully endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement.
Although Biden had been under immediate pressure, the surprise announcement came without warning and many of his own staffers and supporters in Congress appeared to be caught off guard.
“No one was informed prior to the tweet being posted,” a Biden campaign worker told DailyMail.com. “Which, to me, is an insane way to treat the 1,300 people who work for you on the campaign.”
Earlier on Sunday, several Biden allies took to the airwaves to insist the president would not resign and would continue his reelection efforts.
Biden said in his letter that he would speak in more detail about his decision in remarks to the country later this week. He also sent a brief follow-up message pushing for Harris to take over his campaign.
Last week, Biden was removed from the campaign trail after being diagnosed with COVID-19 for the third time in the middle of a West Coast tour. This led to even more speculation about his imminent withdrawal from the race.
This came after the confrontation with Trump last month, where Biden was often seen on split screen with his mouth open and a blank stare.
While speaking at the podium, the President would stumble, freeze, lose his train of thought and mumble as he answered the moderator’s questions.
At one point, barely 12 minutes into the debate, Trump said: “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows what he said either.”
Trump attended a post-debate rally in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he said he was skeptical that Biden would actually drop out of the race, arguing that Democrats have no better option against him in November.
The former president’s immediate response to Biden’s decision came in a call to CNN on Sunday.
“He is the worst president in the history of our country,” the former president said. “He goes down in history as the worst president in the history of our country, by far.”
Trump added that he believes Harris will be even easier to defeat than Biden.
