President Joe Biden came out and said he would “do 9/11” when questioned by reporters ahead of the debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

Speaking outside the White House ahead of the presidential debate, the 81-year-old said: ‘I’m going to my granddaughter’s birthday in New York.

“Then we’ll watch the debate and tomorrow we’ll talk about September 11. I spoke to the vice president and she is calm, serene and collected.”

The president’s comment on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in the United States caused some on social media to raise eyebrows at his remarks.

On social media platform X, one person commented: “Biden’s mistakes are endless. You’d think someone would have checked his scripts by now.”

Another posted: “Yes… he did,” while someone else added: “I have to be honest until I saw that clip of ‘I’m doing 9/11 tomorrow’ I forgot Joe Biden was alive.”

An X account associated with the Trump campaign shared the clip and said: “This is the humiliating cognitive decline that Kamala Harris COVERED UP.”

It is the latest in a long series of gaffes by the commander in chief, who dropped out of his re-election bid after a disastrous debate performance against Trump.

Just days before his shocking announcement, he had even referred to Vice President Harris as Donald Trump.

Other mishaps include crashing into flagpoles, falling off bicycles and calling people by the wrong names.

Biden is set to mark the anniversary of the attacks in New York City before also visiting the Pentagon and memorials in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Al Qaeda plotters took control of planes and attacked the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon near Washington.

A fourth plane was headed to Washington but crashed in Shanksville after crew members and passengers attempted to storm the cockpit.

Officially, the number of victims associated with the attacks is put at 2,996, including 2,977 victims and 19 kidnappers.

Thousands more people were injured, with New York bearing the brunt of the death toll: an estimated 1,600 people were killed in the North Tower and another 1,000 in the South Tower.

Harris and Trump will face off for the first time in perhaps their only debate of the US presidential election.

The event will offer Americans a more detailed look at a campaign that has changed dramatically since the last debate in June.

Following the final debate, Biden dropped out of the race while Trump survived an assassination attempt.

Harris is intent on showing she can press the Democratic case against Trump better than Biden can.

Trump, in turn, is trying to paint the vice president as a liberal out of touch with reality as he attempts to win over voters skeptical of his return to the White House.

The 78-year-old has had a hard time adjusting to Harris, 59, who is the first woman, Black person and person of South Asian descent to serve as vice president.

The former president has resorted to invoking racial and gender stereotypes, frustrating allies who want Trump to focus instead on policy differences.
