Top Republican Supervisor James Comer said President Biden has not responded to an invitation to testify at the Capitol and said the White House is spending every second trying to “attack” and “discredit” him.
‘We have not received a response from President Biden. But the White House is spending every second of its free time trying to attack me,” Comer said on Fox News on Wednesday.
“They do everything possible to discredit the investigation and intimidate,” he added.
Comer, R-Ky., insisted his investigation has “proved crimes,” even as he refuses to commit to holding a vote to impeach the president.
‘We need to listen to Joe Biden because we are at the point we are at, what I call trying to provide accountability. “We’ve proven the crimes,” he told Fox. “Now it’s time to hold people accountable for the crimes.”
Top Republican Supervisor James Comer said President Biden has not responded to an invitation to testify at the Capitol and said the White House spends every second trying to “attack” and “discredit” him.
Last month, Comer sent a fundraising email suggesting he would send criminal referrals to the Justice Department rather than indict the president.
‘What do you think they would do if we impeached Biden? It is clear that Democrats will choose their party over their country and the truth at all times. “They should be ashamed of themselves,” Comer wrote.
“That’s why I’m preparing criminal referrals as a culmination of my investigation.”
The Department of Justice (DOJ) will likely ignore those references, but “when President Trump returns to the White House, it is critical that the new DOJ leadership has everything it needs to prosecute the Biden crime family and deliver swift justice.” “. Comer wrote.
The invitation to testify came after Republicans extensively searched the bank accounts of the president and his family to find evidence of their wrongdoing.
The saga has included testimony from the president’s son, Hunter Biden, and his brother, James Biden, among others, and Republicans view the president’s potential testimony as the crown jewel of their investigation.
But the president was almost certain to reject Comer’s offer.
He would probably opt out of having a potentially embarrassing made-for-TV moment that could lend credibility to the GOP’s efforts.
The impeachment saga has included testimony from the president’s son, Hunter Biden, and his brother, James Biden, among others, and Republicans view the president’s potential testimony as the crown jewel of their investigation.
In response to the letter, White House spokesman Ian Sams sent DailyMail.com a publish in X from earlier this month: “Comer knows that more than 20 witnesses have testified that POTUS did nothing wrong.”
“He knows that the hundreds of thousands of pages of records he received have refuted his false accusations,” his post continued. “This is a sad stunt at the end of a dead impeachment trial.”
But Comer disagrees.
The Kentucky Republican’s letter details many of the committee’s findings, particularly focusing on how more than $24 million has flowed from foreign sources to Biden, his family and his business partners.
“You have repeatedly denied having played any role in your family’s business activities, but the Committee has amassed evidence, including bank records and witness testimony, that totally contradicts your position on these matters,” the letter states.
The Republican claims that a network of shell companies funneled or received more than $25 million from China, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and other nations that ultimately ended up in the hands of the Biden family or their business partners.
