A nationwide search is underway to find Britain’s best construction cafe, with people nominating their best greasy spoons in a bid to crown the restaurant serving the best classic fry-up.

Builder’s radio station Fix Radio launched the contest after research found that 73 per cent of adults see their local coffee shop as the lifeblood of their local community.

The winner of the competition will be crowned later this year and will be given stickers to place in the store window to mark their success.

Speaking about the competition, a Fix Radio spokesperson said: “We will spare no effort when it comes to finding the best café for builders.”

‘As our research shows, these institutions are highly valued by local people and provide such an important service.

“It is only right that we celebrate and give back to them as they have supported local communities across the country for decades.”

The survey of 2,000 adults found that 75 percent wish they could visit their greasy restaurant more often.

On average, people are willing to travel up to four miles to get there.

Almost half (44 per cent) said the British atmosphere was also a crucial component when choosing an establishment.

Three-quarters said price is an important factor when choosing a cafe and would be willing to shell out £9.15 for a fry-up.

Eggs (84 percent), sausages (82 percent), and bacon (80 percent) are the top non-negotiables when it comes to essential components.

Also notable are baked beans (67 percent), hash browns (50 percent) and roasted tomatoes (52 percent).

Black pudding (29 per cent), chips (eight per cent) and black pudding (six per cent) languished at the bottom as the least popular options.

And almost half (49 per cent) of adults have completely ruled out the idea of ​​eating a vegetarian or vegan version of Full English, according to OnePoll research.

The British cup of tea reigned supreme (55 per cent) and ahead of coffee (43 per cent), followed by orange juice (39 per cent) and water (14 per cent) as the drink of choice.

A Fix spokesperson added: ‘Builders and a fry-up in your favorite cafe go hand in hand. Getting it right is the best way to test the mettle of a greasy spoon!’

‘If you want to know how good a coffee is for the construction sector, then you have to try it.

‘Our favorite fried food? It has to be the bacon, done to perfection and driving trade during a tough day in the place.”
