A double-certified doctor has revealed the three things she never does at home in a bid to keep her child safe and healthy.
Dr. Poonam Desai of the United States said she does not allow people to wear shoes in her home, never heats food in plastic containers in the microwave and avoids using scented laundry detergents.
The “longevity expert” said dirty shoes can bring bacteria inside the house, while some containers can “bleed” microplastics and scented laundry detergent interferes with hormone production.
Dr. Poonam said her family always takes off their shoes right at the door instead of entering with dirty footwear.
‘Shoes can carry dirt, feces, mold, pesticides and more. Personally, I prefer to be without shoes in my house! That means also teaching my son not to wear shoes at home,” she explained.

Secondly, the doctor said she never heats or eats hot food in plastic containers, as they release microplastics.
‘Microplastics are known endocrine disruptors. Although it is sometimes difficult to avoid using a plastic or heated plastic water bottle when I am out, at home I try to avoid it,” he said.
Dr. Poonam also avoids laundry products and lotions that have added fragrances because they contain a group of potentially harmful chemicals called phthalates.
He said phthalates add aromas to products, but “making them more flexible can interfere with hormone production.”

Dr. Poonam shared her tips in a video that caused many parents to applaud the “helpful” advice.
‘I’m also a doctor, and we don’t do all three either,’ said one viewer, and another wrote: ‘I do exactly the same thing!’
‘I practice avoiding plastic. “I can’t escape it completely, but I don’t eat or drink plastic,” a third responded.
‘I’m with you two out of three. “I only wear my fragrance in moderation,” added another.
One user warned: ‘Don’t forget that baby bottles are also plastic containers. I think more parents of babies should avoid plastic bottles, especially if they use formula with hot water.
