A mother said she left people “shocked” after turning up for her Caesarean section with a full face of makeup on so she could “look good” when the baby was born.
Bromley Elford, 28, from Wantage in Oxfordshire, opted for a Caesarean section for the birth of her second baby, after experiencing a “horrible” natural birth with her first child nine years ago.
Knowing the exact time and date she was due to give birth, the 28-year-old said she woke up two hours earlier than she needed to be at the hospital to put on her full face of makeup and straighten her hair.
The mother of two is never without a new set of nails or eyelash extensions, and she wasn’t going to let childbirth stop her from looking her best.
Bromley sported a new set of acrylic lashes and false eyelashes for the birth of her second child, after visiting the salon days before she was scheduled to have her C-section.

Before entering the theater, the broadband office executive sent a photo of herself dressed in her surgical gown to her coworkers, admitting that they were “stunned” by her full face, but also found it funny.
And after sharing a video on TikTok documenting her experience with the elective C-section, Bromley said that while some users were quick to praise her glamorous appearance, others couldn’t understand why she went to such great lengths to give birth.
Bromley said: ‘I put on full makeup because I wanted to look good in the birth photos.
‘Obviously, a few days before the C-section I made sure to get my nails done and new eyelashes.
‘I had French acrylic nails done for £35 and Russian eyelash extensions which cost £60.
‘Before going into my C-section, I woke up at 5pm to put on my full makeup and left at 6:30am
‘I also straightened my hair, but I do that every day. I had just been on holiday, so luckily I didn’t need to get an artificial tan, as I already had a natural tan.
Bromley shared a video on her TikTok telling viewers that she had once again applied full, glamorous makeup, 17 hours after the birth of her son, Cove.

‘I sent them some pictures of me before giving birth to my daughters at work and they were a little shocked at the full face, but thought it was very funny.
‘They asked me what time I got up to put on makeup and why I had my face completely covered if I was going to have a baby.
“After posting it on TikTok, I didn’t expect it to have such a big impact. I also didn’t think it was that unusual to have a full face of makeup.
“I was surprised by how shocked some people were. Some of the comments were lovely and said how great I looked. Some people wondered why I did it.”
Cove, now four weeks old, had a much better birth according to the glamour mum, who recommended a C-section to other mums if they are worried about giving birth naturally.
She also responded to people who commented on her decision to wear makeup during surgery and said her postpartum photos looked great thanks to it.
Bromley said: ‘I look at the photos taken of me after I had my first daughter and I don’t even look alive.
‘(This time) I wanted to take some nice photos to remember them by. I took them with a Polaroid camera and I was satisfied with the photos. I thought I looked pretty good.
“I would definitely recommend this to other pregnant women. If you know your birth is planned and you’re going to want photos afterwards, why not make the effort?

Viewers were left divided over Bromley’s decision to glam up to “meet” her son. The mother responded to the negative comments by saying she couldn’t believe “someone would go to such lengths”.
‘In response to the negative comments, I simply cannot believe that the fact that I had a full face of makeup for my own surgery to meet my baby has upset anyone else so much.
‘It just baffles me that someone would take the time to comment negative things on someone else’s post.
“The C-section went very well and I recommend it 100 percent. Everything was positive and my recovery has also been incredible.”
