Hollywood superstar Reece Witherspoon has snapped up the rights to an unlikely Australian lifestyle show that launched during the pandemic.
Channel Nine’s Country House Hunters, presented by Catriona Rowntree, follows Australians who have chosen to leave their urban lifestyle and move to the countryside.
Following the success of the spin-off in New Zealand and Canada, Reece’s production company, Hello Sunshine, has adopted the format for American audiences on A+E Networks.
A+E has also ordered that the franchise’s entire back catalog air at the same time as the US version.
Presenter Catriona said she was delighted with the growth of Country House Hunters and described the show as “the little Australian show that roared”.

‘When I was booked it was meant to be for 10 shows during lockdown. “Now we’re about to finish episode 80, we’ve got another series booked and if we could find an eighth day of the week, we’d be filming,” he said. The Herald of the Sun on Sunday.
‘It’s joyful, it’s positive, it’s encouraging, it’s all these wonderful superlatives. Hopefully all of this is uplifting.”
The series was developed by Melbourne-based Abode Entertainment and has already aired three seasons in Australia on Nine.
“This collaboration marks an important milestone for us at Abode Entertainment and we are thrilled with the opportunity to bring our unique storytelling to a global platform,” said Gary Takle, executive producer of Abode Entertainment, in a press release last week.

Catriona previously revealed that the concept of Country House Hunters reflected her own life living on a sheep farm in rural Victoria.
‘Country House Hunters was inspired by my real life; “Leaving the city to start a new life on a sheep and grain farm and embracing a beautiful new community,” Catriona told The Herald Sun in 2020.
