He has been adopting the iconic look of classic singers ahead of the release of his upcoming fifth studio album.
And Halsey revealed one of her most striking transformations to date on Thursday when she became the spitting image of Britney Spears in an Instagram post.
The 30-year-old singer (real name: Ashley Frangipane) appeared in a blue-tinted photo in which they were made up to look like the 42-year-old pop superstar from her hit 2003 album In The Zone.
Like Britney, Halsey, who uses she and they pronouns, was bathed in a steely light and her face stood out brightly against the shadows of her chest.
The stunning image followed her attempts to imitate classic looks from stars including David Bowie, Dolly Parton, Madonna and Bruce Springsteen ahead of the release of her album The Great Impersonator.
Halsey transformed into a photo of Britney Spears from her 2003 In The Zone cover in an Instagram post on Thursday. The photo double was promoting his upcoming album The Great Impersonator.
Every artist he’s transformed into for a release seems to have inspired a particular song on the upcoming LP.
“Day 11 of the countdown to The Greatest Impersonator, October 25,” Halsey wrote, adding, “IIt’s Britney, bitch!!!!’
They noted that the photo was in reference to the upcoming album’s sixteenth track, a song titled ‘Lucky’.
She gushed that Britney wasn’t.The first superstar who inspired me.”
“There were endless Britney looks to choose from, but I had to make this iconic album!” Halsey added.
In her Britney-inspired photo, Halsey was dressed in a black tank top, reminiscent of Britney’s shirt in the original photo, although Halsey had several tattoos that the older pop icon did not have.
Haley was also stylishly made up to match the original photo, and they were wearing what was likely a long blonde wig that flowed in the breeze to match Britney’s shiny hair in the original.
Notably, Halsey cropped her new photo to match the original photo from Britney’s In The Zone album, rather than the cropped version used on the album cover, which focuses on Britney’s face in the foreground.
In The Zone was a smash hit that debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart and received some of the best reviews of his career.
It signaled a more mature turn for his music, and one of his singles, the top 10 hit Toxic, is now considered one of his best songs, with rolling stone placing it at the top of his work and declaring it ‘the great pop song of this century’ in a ranking of his 2022 songs.
Halsey became more somber on Thursday as she shared a tribute to late One Direction singer Liam Payne following his death on Wednesday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“I loved One Direction with an all-consuming force when I was younger,” they wrote. in tumblr. “It hurts deeply to mourn someone who you were a big fan of as a teenager and who you became an equal to as an adult.”
“I know that people change and that grief is unsafe or complicated when it is tied to a fond memory or the feeling that a person gave you and not tangibly to the person themselves,” they continued. “I can see that many of you here are struggling with that right now and I understand that.”
Halsey had something of a direct connection to her fellow pop star, having purchased a home Payne previously owned in Calabasas, California, for $10.2 million, according to Architectural compendium.
Halsey admitted that she was worried about the house after hearing rumors that it was haunted.
Halsey has impersonated iconic singers who inspired different songs on her album ahead of its October 25 release.
The hitmaker has previously dressed up as Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Dolly Parton, David Bowie and Kate Bush, among many others; photographed on September 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
She also paid tribute to the late Liam Payne on Tumblr on Thursday, noting that she had purchased a house he previously lived in, and that he had assured her it was not haunted.
“He assured me no and I believed him. because I know that the ghosts that haunt us are not tied to buildings. “They live in parts of us that are harder to reach and they go wherever we go,” he wrote.
‘As a father, fellow artist and fan, I simply cannot understand this untimely loss. My heart goes out to his family, friends and fans,” Halsey concluded her post, adding a broken heart emoji.
Payne died after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.
Hotel staff had called emergency services shortly before his death to report “an aggressive man who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol” who was “destroying his room,” according to the local prosecutor’s office.
