How to check a screen recording before you share it — a practical WhatsNew2Day switching guide

Separate recording from editing

OBS, ShareX and hosted recording tools have different workflows. Recording a file does not establish access to a timeline editor, transcription or a managed library. List the downstream requirements before comparing prices, so a free capture app is not assumed to replace an entire production and distribution stack.

Use an audio marker you can recognize

A moving picture with silent audio may look successful in a thumbnail. Record a short spoken phrase and an independently played system tone at known times. Reopen the export in another player and check both. A browser permission prompt or an unsupported sound source is a test limitation to record, not a result to conceal.

Check the person receiving the video

A working creator preview does not demonstrate recipient access. Test the actual handoff mode: a local MP4, a restricted share link or a link available without signing in. If the plan does not provide that mode, retain the limitation in the comparison. Keep a copy of important exports before changing a subscription or deleting a hosted library.

Inspect the exact editions

Open the full evidence record before choosing. A documented candidate is not a completed migration test.
