The dig was in reference to Neville’s comments about Chelsea after their Carabao Cup final defeat to Liverpool.
Speaking after what proved to be the decisive goal, Neville gave a blunt assessment of the two teams.
It’s Klopp’s sons against the billion-pound blue bottlers. I have no sympathy for Chelsea,” Neville said.
It wasn’t just Carragher who responded to Neville on social media, with several football fans joining in.
“My thoughts are with @GNev2 for his Red Billion Pound bottle work,” joked one Chelsea fan.
“Billion pounds red,” wrote another with a photo of Mason Mount, who walked onto the pitch with his team winning before a late capitulation at his old home.
“Billions of pounds with one game in hand are only 5 points behind Manchester United,” noted another fan.
After the match, Man United manager Erik ten Hag suggested that his team should have emerged victorious.
“We should have won this game,” he said.
‘It’s a team performance. As a team, when things get chaotic, you have to deal with the circumstances. Keep the ball, go from side to side. It’s not a lack of concentration.
‘I think it was unfortunate because of the penalty situation. Questionable, very soft.’
