Zac Efron has insisted that he is

Zac Efron has insisted he is “happy and healthy” after being hospitalised over the weekend, but it has been a tough time for the movie pin-up.

It’s not the first time Zac has made headlines for his physical health, with drama surrounding the star since he rose to fame as heartthrob Troy Bolton in High School Musical in 2006.

The latest incident landed the actor in hospital on the party island of Ibiza when he took a deep dive into a pool at a villa early on Saturday morning.

Zac had ingested ‘a large amount of water into his lungs’ after coming into contact with the bottom of the pool.

The protagonist had “showed signs of distress” and was “momentarily stunned” by the incident, sources told the outlet, at which point security officers rushed to his aid.

The Ibiza accident comes 11 years after a near-death experience in which the star slipped in a puddle of water while running in socks at home and crashed his chin into a granite fountain, leaving his chin bone “hanging from his face”.

Zac later told Entertainment Tonight that he almost died after the freak injury, explaining: “It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we’re okay.”

The movie star famously claimed the accident caused her change in appearance, leading to a flurry of speculation in recent years that she had undergone cosmetic surgery.

Zac has always denied having any plastic surgery, insisting instead that the masseter muscles inside his face and jaw “compensated” for his 2013 injury, leading to his shape change.

The High School Musical star even claimed that she didn’t know her transformation had gone viral on social media until her mother told her about the plastic surgery rumors.

Despite all his efforts to bring truth to the rumors, Zac has found himself with a new problem recently after fans watched his most recent hit, A Family Affair.

In the romantic comedy, which co-stars Nicole Kidman and Joey King, the 36-year-old actor is seen with a noticeably wider jaw and more robust facial features, and viewers have been quick to point out how different he looks now.

‘I’m trying to watch #AFamilyAffair with #ZacEfron but I’m too distracted by whatever he did to his beautiful face, why would he do that to himself?’ wrote one X user while watching the new film.

In December 2013, Zac again sparked surgery rumors after wearing a pair of dark sunglasses on The Today Show to promote his project The Iron Claw, which saw him undergo a drastic transformation to portray wrestler Kevin Von Erich.

Despite some fans insisting the sunglasses were further evidence of cosmetic surgery, Zac insisted he had an eye infection.

It’s been almost 20 years since Zac first rose to fame in Disney’s hit classic High School Musical.

He was the teen darling of the late 2000s, but by 2013, life was starting to fall apart for this heartthrob.

Zac checked into rehab in 2013 and spoke about how fame had driven him crazy in a raw interview with Bear Grylls on his TV show Running Wild a year later.

The actor explained that his problems were not due to a heavy workload, but to his fame. “Pretty soon you need a social lubricant,” Zac said.

“The hardest thing was never the work. It never was. It was an in-between job.”

‘The social aspects outside of this, I mean, everywhere you go there’s press of some kind. It can be everywhere and it can be confusing. You spend a lot of time at home, going crazy.’

He added: “I was getting to the point where I cared less about work and looked forward more to the weekend, when I couldn’t wait to get out, relax and have fun.”

“But when Monday and Tuesday were hard to get through, then I thought, ‘Ah, this is bad.'”

“I really don’t want to have to accept anything from the outside in order to feel good about myself, to be comfortable in my current skin. And that takes a lot of work.

“It’s just meditation, stopping and slowing down the brain.”

Zac ditched partying in favor of meditation and exercise, but it was his dedication to his physical health that caused the star to experience another decline in his mental health in 2017.

She revealed that she fell into a deep depression and suffered from insomnia while training for her 2017 film, Baywatch.

He told Men’s Health: “I don’t know if you can actually pull off that Baywatch look. There’s very little water on the skin. It’s fake, it looks computer generated.”

Zac said he took Lasix, a diuretic, to achieve his ripped look in the film, which ultimately took a toll on his mental health.

Zac has been open about his struggles over the past two decades, and this weekend he spoke directly about reports about his health by sharing an Instagram snap of himself working out.

She added: “I started to suffer from insomnia and fell into a very severe depression for a long time. Some of that experience drained me.”

“I had a hard time focusing. In the end, they put it down to the fact that I had taken too many diuretics for too long and that messed something up.”
