Filming for the final episode of Gavin And Stacey is in full swing and the cast can be seen on the iconic Barry Island set in footage taken this week.

The upcoming Christmas Day episode will mark the BBCThe sitcom is returning for the first time in five years and fans are desperate to know what writers James Corden and Ruth Jones have planned.

In the climax of the final Christmas episode of 2019, Nessa got down on one knee to propose to Smithy, but viewers never got to hear his response.

And while viewers were left with plenty of unanswered questions, we take a look at everything we know so far about the upcoming episode.

And those things we don’t do…

Smith said no?

When the family gathered in Barry for the festivities in 2019, the episode ended with Nessa on one knee and the episode ended immediately after she asked, “Will you marry me?”

However, it doesn’t look like the couple have tied the knot, as Nessa (Ruth Jones) was spotted without a ring on her ring finger this week.

Dressed in her usual rock star chic ensemble, although the star did wear rings on her other fingers, there was no engagement ring present.

The couple had an on-off relationship throughout the series after several unplanned one-night stands led to their baby son, Neil.

In the latest episode, which caught up with the characters 10 years after the previous installment, it was revealed that they were successfully raising their son together.

But are they officially together now, with or without a ring?

Is Nessa leaving Barry Island for good?

Responsible for some of the show’s most iconic lines, Nessa’s future was left in doubt when she surprised Smithy with her proposal.

And the Welsh lass appears to be ditching Barry, as she was seen pushing her suitcase behind her in recent shots.

Sporting a burgundy leather jacket, black leather skirt and heeled boots, the star was last seen closing up the gaming room where she works.

Could it be that Smithy has said yes to Nessa’s proposal and is moving to start a life with him in Essex?

What caused Gavin’s freak accident?

Mathew Horne, who plays Gavin, was finally spotted for the first time on the set of the upcoming Christmas special on Thursday.

And pictures indicate that December 25 will be packed with drama as the actor was seen looking shaken up after a freak bike accident.

Dressed in his bike helmet and a black puffer jacket, Mathew held his on-screen wife Joanna Page, aka Stacey, close as she recovered from the shock.

But what causes the accident? Does he go out of his way because he has other concerns? Does he get hit by a car?

I guess we’ll have to wait a few more months to find out.

Will Bryn and Gwen leave Barry Island?

They form the very fabric of Barry, yet in Wednesday’s pictures it looked as though Uncle Bryn and Gwen were leaving their home in Wales.

Actors Rob Brydon and Melanie Walters looked excited as they were seen packing up a car outside their famous home.

Melanie, 62, was seen placing huge suitcases on top of the car as her on-screen brother-in-law, played by Rob, 59, helped her.

In the 2019 episode, it was revealed that Gwen’s late neighbour Doris (Margaret John) had left her home to Gavin and Stacey and their three children.

So if Gwen and Bryn are closing their doors, does that mean Gavin and Stacey are leaving too?

Baby Neil will return

Nessa and Smithy were reunited with their baby son Neil during scenes filmed on Friday.

However, Neil, who was born in 2008 as a result of a one-night stand between the couple, is no longer a baby and is now 15 years old.

Arriving in the passenger seat of Smithy’s iconic car, Neil, played by Oscar Hartland, looked very different from the 10-year-old who last appeared on the show in 2019.

Stepping out of the car, Oscar was seen waving to fans and flashing the peace sign as he waited to film his scenes.

But are her on-again, off-again parents finally planning to get married and give in to their love for each other?

But what do we NOT know? The fishing trip

This is probably the most asked question in the series.

Fans are desperate to know what really happened on Bryn’s famous fishing trip with her nephew Jason, which they both refuse to talk about – a long-running joke on the show.

Stacey’s brother, played by Robert Wilfort, appeared in the sitcom from time to time when he visited the family from his home in Spain.

And although the fishing trip was often alluded to, fans never found out what happened that day between him and Bryn.

And so far Jason hasn’t been seen filming, suggesting he either won’t appear in the final episode or his involvement will be kept secret.

Will Dawn and Pete have survived another year?

Another duo that has yet to be seen filming is the iconic Dawn Sutcliffe (Julia Davis) and her disappointing husband Pete (Adrian Scarborough).

The last time we saw them, a rift was already looming between the couple, but luckily Pam and Mick were able to save them. On the brink of divorce once again.

But what will happen to the couple, who have been married for 30 years, if they last another five? Or could we be meeting a new potential suitor for Dawn?

Will Rudi return for one last duet with his brother?

Rudi (Sheridan Smith) and Smithy’s rendition of Estelle’s American Boy will never be forgotten as the pair proved they had rapping skills second to none.

Rudi did not return for the latest Christmas special to the disappointment of fans and has so far not been seen on set for the next episode.

MailOnline revealed in May that it was “highly unlikely” the actress would return to the show as there had “not yet been any talks” about her returning.

A source said: “It’s highly unlikely Sheridan will appear in the finale of Gavin and Stacey. No-one has contacted her about reprising her role and she has other big opportunities coming up.”
