Philadelphia Super Bowl hero Nick Foles was honored at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday night as the quarterback retired from the NFL as a member of the Eagles.

It was in Super Bowl LII at the end of the 2017 season that Foles, who had replaced an injured Carson Wentz less than two months earlier, put together a legendary four-touchdown performance to give the Eagles the victory over the Patriots.

And although the quarterback has not played for Philadelphia since the 2019 season, he returned to his former team on Monday after announcing his retirement last month.

Earlier in the day, he also appeared on ESPN’s Monday Night Football coverage, when former teammate Jason Kelce brought him and fellow former Eagle Fletcher Cox on stage to hype up the Philadelphia crowd.

The Eagles also posted a photo of him. signing retirement papers alongside team owner Jeffrey Lurie.

During his retirement speech, he made sure to praise the Philadelphia fans who were there for the championship run he led.

“One of my favorite moments is the NFC Championship Game when we were about to do our 7-on-7 warmups and everyone was making so much noise and dancing, we were dancing,” he said.

“I had to pause, watch, take it in and realize how blessed I was to play for a great city, a great organization.”

Foles was the team’s backup quarterback in the 2017 season until Week 14, when he replaced Wentz.

The former threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns against the Patriots in the Super Bowl, but is best remembered for the ‘Philly Special,’ a clever play that saw him catch a touchdown from tight end Trey Burton.

That would help the Eagles ultimately earn a 41-33 victory and cement Foles’ place as a franchise legend.

He started just five more games for the franchise the following season before stints with the Jaguars, Bears and Colts.

He last stepped on the field for Indianapolis during the 2022 season.
