Deebo confident off-season weight loss won’t affect his performance Originally appeared in NBC Bay Area Sports
By Deebo Samuel Noticeable weight loss off-season It’s gotten a lot of attention, but the 49ers All-Pro wide receiver is confident it won’t have any negative effects on his signature physique.
During an interview with Kay Adams on “Up and Adams“After Friday’s practice, Samuel was asked how much weight he had lost, and the star receiver was reluctant to share a ballpark figure.
“I don’t know. Stop it,” Samuel told Adams.
Samuel is known for being incredibly difficult to tackle for opposing defenses, something he is confident will not change anytime soon, regardless their physical transformations.
“It doesn’t matter how much I’ve lost or won,” Samuel said. “That’s not going to change.”
Samuel further explained that despite his weight loss, his muscle mass remains intact, comparing his physique to that of a couple of his 49ers teammates.
“It’s weight, but not muscle mass,” Samuel explained. “I still have Nick Bosa’s quads and Brock Purdy’s quads. So overall, I’m in pretty good shape, ready for Week 1.”
Adams jokingly suggested that Samuel’s jersey change from No. 19 to No. 1 could be the reason for the perceived weight loss, which the wide receiver did not jokingly rule out.
“Probably yes, who knows,” Samuel said with a smile.
Samuel has looked amazing throughout 49ers training camp, asserting his belief that weight loss is nothing to worry about.
Opposing defenses still have to fear Samuel and the brute strength he brings as a ball carrier, even if he is a few pounds lighter this season.
