Former Arsenal star Kristoffer Olsson is in hospital after losing consciousness while at home.

The Swedish international has been put on a ventilator due to suffering from “an acute brain-related illness” after being transferred to Aarhus University Hospital on Tuesday 20 February.

His current club, FC Midtylland, issued a statement on Tuesday morning detailing the reasons why their player has been “absent”, highlighting that his current condition “is not due to self-harm of any kind”.

“Kristoffer Olsson suffers from an apparently acute brain-related illness, which is not due to self-harm of any kind or external factors,” reads the statement from the Danish side.

‘A team of Denmark’s leading medical experts is currently working under high pressure to make a diagnosis and initiate appropriate treatment.

‘Since his admission, Kristoffer has been surrounded by his immediate family and some of the FC Midtjylland staff, and is being treated by specialists in the field.

‘FC Midtjylland urgently asks the public to show respect and understanding so that Kristoffer, the family and doctors have the peace of mind necessary to ensure Kristoffer’s recovery is as good as possible.

“All of us at FC Midtjylland are, of course, deeply affected by Kristoffer’s sudden illness and our thoughts and all our support are with Kristoffer and his family.”

Olsson briefly appeared at the Emirates after joining the club as a youth prospect in 2011.

After few appearances in his first senior season in 2013-14, the midfielder was loaned out to Midtylland, in a move that was made permanent at the end of the 2014-15 campaign.

AIK was quick to send a statement of support to their former player, publishing a letter on X (formerly Twitter) following the news.

“We have received the tragic news that former AIK player and golden hero Kristoffer Olsson has suffered a sudden illness and is currently on a ventilator at Aarhus University Hospital,” the club wrote.

‘All of us at AIK Football are deeply affected by his sudden illness and our thoughts and all our support go out to Kristoffer and his family. Fight Koffe! (heart emoji)’
