Davina McCall has explained why she refuses to act or dress her age and revealed the new series of My Mum, Your Dad made her cry.

The second season of ITV’s My Mum, Your Dad will air sometime in September and follows middle-aged single parents looking to find love again, with their children watching their every move.

Ahead of her return, Davina, 56, spoke about what she has in common with the contestants and recalls a particularly poignant moment from the new series.

Davina said The mirror: ‘Our age group, we’re the first of a new generation of middle-aged people. We’re the people who went to raves, who did drugs, we’re pioneers. We were naughty, we were fun, we were loud… and then we had kids.

‘We settled in, we were good people for 18 years, and now we’re like, ‘Well, let’s start over. ‘ It’s like having a second chance at life, and we’re making the kids see that second chance.’

In one episode, Malachi, 19, will tell his mother Jenny, 51, how much he appreciates everything she has done for him over the years.

Davina said of the moment: “I was caught crying a lot. And I’ve seen it before. It’s very moving. It was like I said to parents about their children: ‘They’re not here to laugh. They’re not making fun of you.'”

While the format of the show will remain the same, there will be one addition.

With their children watching, the contestants were reluctant to have sex. However, the second season will feature a secret sex dungeon, with the option to turn off the lights.

My Mum, Your Dad, launching in 2023, was promoted as the middle-aged version of Love Island.

The second series was confirmed in October, but an exact release date has yet to be announced.

In the first trailer for the upcoming series, some of the cast members break down in tears upon seeing a particularly emotional moment between two of the parents.

Meanwhile, things seem to be getting very hot when two of the parents share a passionate kiss in the bedroom, much to the horror of their adult children.

The cast includes Christian and his son Lucas; David and his daughter Tiana; Maria and her daughter Livia; Andy and their daughter Issy; Davina, Clare and their daughter Aimee; Vicky and their daughter Angharad; Jenny and her son Malachi; and Danny and his son Ellis.

It remains to be seen who will be paired with whom when the series returns to screens in September.

My Mum, Your Dad will air on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
