Thousands of customers are just discovering the purpose of the hooks that easily go unnoticed on self-service carts.
Sydney Woolworths employee Liam Kirley revealed in a resurfaced TikTok video that the hook under the handlebars on the back of the trolley is designed to hold your shopping bags.
The idea was called “life-changing” by some who had “no idea” the hook was there to begin with.
However, other buyers disagreed and admitted that they had been using the hook to store roast chickens.
“Here’s a trick with the Woolworths tram,” Liam said in the viral video.

Liam revealed that the easy-to-overlook hook under the handlebars on the back of the stroller (left) is designed to hold his hat or green reusable bags from Woolworths (right). However, some buyers admitted that they have been using the hook to store roast chickens.
‘Every Woolworths trolley has a complimentary hook so you can hang your hat or reusable bags.’
Although some buyers dismissed his claim and remain convinced that the hook was designed specifically for carrying roast chickens to keep them away from cold products and prevent them from being crushed by other foods.
“Definitely for roast chicken,” one woman said.
“It’s good for roast chicken so it doesn’t ruin other foods,” another agreed.
Other shoppers said they use the hook for purses, olive oil, and even pocket items like key chains.
“I use it for my purses and my roast chicken,” one woman said.
“My mom hangs her purse there,” wrote another.

“If you’re like me and forget your bags, you can set a reminder on the Woolworths app to let you know when you arrive at the store to pick them up,” she said.
For the third trick, the worker demonstrated a useful way to store the bags to ensure they last longer.
She lifted the bottom of the bag and then placed it on top of itself to store it carefully.
“If you fold your reusable bags this way, it will give them a longer life,” he said.
The bags cost 99 cents each and Woolworths will replace them if they are damaged.
