Before adding: “My goal is to make it as truthful as possible.”

Emrhys grew up in Totnes with his parents Christopher and Raphaela, new age hippies with an open attitude towards unconventional lifestyles.

But her family life was compromised, almost fatally, after her free-thinking parents turned to a holistic doctor, who advised her ailing mother to avoid conventional medicines.

He said Mirror‘My mother had a prescription for high blood pressure and a holistic doctor basically told her she could stop taking it with some herbal remedy, and she had a heart attack.’

Raphaela eventually suffered a severe stroke that left her paralysed, and Emrhys believes it could have been avoided if she had gone back to taking her regular blood pressure medication.

Her parents had another unpleasant encounter with a London-based group, but red flags were raised when they began asking the couple for money.

He said: “It was actually a kind of spiritual, wellness and fitness cult. And as they got more and more involved and gave more money, it became more sinister.”

The worst was to come when the group attempted to engage the bewildered couple in a series of bizarre sexual exercises.

“Basically, the cult tried to break my parents up by doing these very sexual exercises with other people, which alarmed my father a little bit because he had to grope this woman and my mother had to do this with someone else,” he said.

“Then they realized that this exercise program was not all it was cracked up to be.”

He added: “They came out relatively unscathed, but they have been through different situations. They are always looking for alternative options.”

‘And they are intelligent people, but unfortunately, they are very open-hearted and have often been taken advantage of.
