Allison was born on October 24, 1929 in New York City and graduated from Marymount High School.

Jean was discovered by an agent after her performance in a play titled Teach Me How to Cry, written by Patricia Joudry.

Her first credited role was in the anthology series General Electric Theater (1957), where she played the role of Ethel Keeley.

The two welcomed a daughter, Erin, over the course of their marriage, which came to an end when they divorced in 1958, according to IMDB.

In 1960, she soon met Phil Toorvald, and the couple welcomed two children, Sven and Tina, while also adopting a third child.

Jean and Phil were married until his death in 1994. His final years were spent with cameraman Jack Couffer.

The two had first met decades earlier on the set of Edge Of Fury and formed a close bond until his death in 2021.
