Tennis power couple Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter have revealed how they kept their budding romance a secret in the early stages (pictured at Wimbledon last year).
In a video for Tennis TV in Madrid, they confirmed that they initially hid their relationship from their teammates and the public.
It included frequently eating breakfast at separate tables in the same place to “avoid speculation.”
Boulter later confirmed that they were often “different times, like 10 minutes later.”
De Minaur, clearly in love with the trip to the past, added that it was a deliberate ploy to “avoid speculation,” to which his girlfriend responded: “it’s so true that people wouldn’t know.”
The Australian could then see him laugh before cheekily adding: “it works every time.”
It comes as De Minaur broke into the top 10 for the first time earlier this year, while Boutler achieved a career-high 27th place on the WTA circuit in March.
Engagement rumors between the couple continue to circulate, and Boulter was seen wearing a ring while sitting courtside for one of De Minaur’s matches at the Australian Open in January.
De Minaur also attracted attention recently after beating the ‘king of clay’ Rafael Nadal at the Barcelona Open.
“When the draw came out, I probably wasn’t very interested in playing Rafa, but I changed my attitude and saw it as a great opportunity, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” De Miñaur said after the match.
“I am very happy to have been able to get the victory.
“I’m very, very lucky not to have played against Rafa a couple of years earlier on clay. The result would have been very, very different.”
Nadal then got his revenge at the Madrid Open, beating the Australian No. 10 in straight sets, on clay, in their second-round bout.
