An Australian mother found a four-foot-long eastern brown snake in her daughter’s bedroom last week.
A photo and video were shared on social media showing the snake sitting next to a porcelain parakeet, sparking speculation that the bird may have lured it inside.
“I think the snake might have thought it was dinner,” one person wrote.
“Thought I was going to have chicken and budgie for tea,” another said in the comments.
However, snake catcher Stuart McKenzie debunked the theory and said it was a “complete coincidence”.
“We believe the snake entered the other end of the house,” he told Daily Mail Australia.
“He probably went through the whole house trying to find a way out and ended up in the bedroom and the dresser where there was a statue of a bird.
“They walk around trying to get out, but often they get lost or enter a completely isolated room.”
McKenzie told Australians to protect their children and pets.
“The main way in is through open windows, open doors and garage doors,” he said.
“If you want a nice breeze into your home on hot days, install some mosquito nets that are secure and gap-free.”
