A father who allegedly never had a driver’s license has been charged again in connection with a horrific crash that killed two teenagers.

Police allege Nicholas Thew, 28, was driving a grey Ford sedan at 45km/h over the 50km/h limit on Maxwells Ave in Ashcroft, in Sydney’s south-west, on the morning of November 6, 2023.

Images from the scene of the accident show the car veering onto the pavement and crashing into a tree and a power pole shortly before 11am. The impact split the car in two.

Two teenage passengers, ages 13 and 14, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 23-year-old passenger was also injured in the crash, which police say was caused by Thew’s careless and dangerous driving.

Thew emerged from the mangled remains of the car and was caught on camera fleeing the scene, police say.

He remained on the run for 24 hours before turning himself in to police the next day.

The 28-year-old was charged with nine offences, including two counts of aggravated dangerous driving causing death, two counts of failing to stop and assist after an impact causing death and driving without a licence.

On Wednesday, court documents revealed that Thew now faces a tenth charge.

The most recent charge is a second count of negligent driving causing death and relates to one of the teenagers who died in the crash.

The Sadleir man had already been charged with careless driving causing death over the death of the other teenager.

He has not pleaded guilty or been charged with any of the ten charges brought before the court.

His lawyer, Julian Mufale, told the court he had “engaged an expert” to prepare a report for his client’s defence, but that “it will not be ready until the end of September”.

He asked the court to adjourn the matter until the report could be completed.

Judge Peter Thompson agreed, saying the report “will be quite crucial to the negotiations.”

The video then appears to show him fleeing the scene (pictured).

Thew will remain behind bars on remand until he returns to court in late September.

According to police, he never had a driver’s license and caused the accident by driving dangerously at high speed.

Police allege the driver knew the impact of the crash could have killed his two teenage passengers, but failed to stop to help them.

Instead, CCTV footage from the area appears to show the 28-year-old man fleeing the scene of the accident on foot.
