Ariana said: ‘I wrote some of [the songs] when I was very excited. And then there are bops that are more fun. In fact, I even cried writing some of the bops.
“I wanted to make sure that it was what I intended, and that even in my most heartbroken or painful moments over the last few years, there was so much kindness, so much love, so much honesty, transparency and respect.” .
“So even in the most difficult moments of loss and pain that you hear in some parts of the album, there was a lot of love and transparency.”
She continued: “It was never like ‘Fuck you’ at all. Even on track two (Goodbye), I tried to make sure it was kind and to give credit for trying and for the kindness there was.
“That was a tricky balance for me because I definitely had some sessions where I wrote more emotionally and reactively, but that’s also very human, so I didn’t want to erase everything.”
Ariana and Dalton filed for divorce on September 18, with documents obtained by TMZ showing that Ariana’s attorney, Laura Wasser, had cited the reason as “irreconcilable differences” with the separation date listed as February 20, 2023.
