Capital Breakfast presenter Sian Welby announced live during Wednesday’s show that she is expecting her first child with her fiancé Jake Beckett.

Sian shared the exciting news with radio co-presenters Roman Kemp and Chris Stark as she revealed she is due in the summer.

The 37-year-old presenter said: ‘I have a little advert for you! I’m pregnant! I don’t know how I managed to hide it from you for so long.

‘The lies, the deceptions, the mocktails! She couldn’t wait to tell you. This is a whole new journey for me and I want to take you all with me, and don’t worry I’m not going anywhere!

“This is going to be so much fun and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.”

Reacting to the news, Sian’s co-hosts Roman said: ‘OMG! Oh man, I’m so happy for you and Jake too!’ and Chris Stark said, ‘Is this real? This is the most exciting news ever!’

Capital revealed that Sian will be taking a break from the station over the summer, but will return to Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris and Sian later this year.

The presenter later shared the news on Instagram, posting a collage of sweet snaps with Jake as they prepared for life as new parents.

Sian’s fiancé Jake works for Heart Breakfast as a creative producer alongside presenters including Kelly Brook, Rochelle Humes, Vogue Williams and Emma Bunton.

It comes after she missed out on the coveted This Morning presenting job, which was awarded to Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard.

Last month, the mum-to-be joined Dermot O’Leary as co-host of the ITV show amid claims love-struck bosses had declared her the “next Holly Willoughby”.

speaking to Sun‘s Fabulous Magazine, Sian explained: “I think if you take any job where someone has been there for years, you will get comparisons.

‘Obviously it doesn’t offend me because I love Holly, she’s an idol to me. I see it as a huge compliment! But at the same time I don’t read anything into it.’

The radio host added that she is grateful to be starring on This Morning and shared her hopes of returning in the future.

He continued: “Now it seems like a fever dream. Did that really happen? And it is somewhat addictive, because you feel a great rush of adrenaline. I did it from Monday to Thursday, and Friday was kind of a comedown after being so high.

‘Seeing comments saying I was a breath of fresh air was lovely. As the new kid on the block, I was bracing myself for some negativity, but wow, people really gave me a chance and didn’t just write me off. “That moved me a lot.”

Viewers praised her debut when she took over last month, saying she was doing a “great job” and “brought fun to the show.”

ITV bosses were also said to have been impressed with Sian after several appearances on the show as a showbiz reporter.

Network sources said she was a ‘rising star’ and they wanted to give her a chance to host the daytime show.

One told MailOnline: ‘Sian has many years of presenting experience under her belt, and is marked out as a star of the future.

“He’s already done very well on This Morning so bosses thought it was time to give him the reins of the whole show rather than just segments.”

They continued: “Viewers love having a fresh new face on the show, so everyone involved is really excited.”

Sian replaced Strictly star Vick Hope on Capital to present alongside Roman and Sonny Jay in 2020.

Sian, who comes from Nottingham, started presenting when she was 19.

She was still working part-time as a shop assistant for New Look when she landed a starring role in an advert for New! The magazine led to her being discovered by former Channel 5 owner Richard Desmond.

She was introduced as the new face of Channel 5 News in 2010 and previously described how she would work as a retail assistant during the day and record online videos in the fitting room after the store closed.
