A 76-year-old man has been found dead inside a home in the Western Australian outback town of York.

A small rural town has been rocked by a homicide investigation after an elderly man was found dead inside a home.

St John WA paramedics were called to a home on Avon Terrace in York, in Western Australia’s Wheatbelt region, shortly before 7.30am on Sunday following the discovery of a man’s body.

Two ambulances were called to the scene but were unable to revive the 76-year-old man.

Police were alerted and homicide detectives launched an investigation into his death.

Police confirmed that a 63-year-old man, known to the victim, is currently assisting officers with inquiries.

No charges have yet been filed.

York is the oldest inland city in Western Australia, located 97 km east of Perth, with a population of almost 2,400.
