Steph Curry made a surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention to endorse Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States

Steph Curry made a surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night to endorse Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States.

Two weeks after inspiring the U.S. men’s basketball team to gold at the Paris Olympics, Curry appeared on the big screen at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, to urge the country to vote for Harris over Republican front-runner Donald Trump later this year.

The American sports star first spoke about the “honour” of capturing Olympic gold before adding a pre-recorded video message: “That unity on and off the court reminded us all that together we can do all things and continue to inspire the world.”

He continued: “That’s why I believe Kamala as president can bring back that unity and continue to move our country forward. It’s about preserving hope and faith in our country, about making sure that families can be cared for during their most precious moments.”

‘I had the opportunity to visit Kamala with my team at the White House last year and I can tell you one thing I knew then and I definitely know now: the Oval Office suits her well.

‘So, as Michelle Obama said, do something! Go vote, be active. Let’s show up in November like never before.

“It’s been an honor to represent our country, it’s an honor to support Kamala, so let’s all do our part.”

Curry, whose 24 points helped the United States beat host France in the Olympic men’s basketball final, previously aligned himself with Democrats during the 2020 presidential election.

On the eve of the Paris Games, he also expressed hope that Harris would win this year’s election.

“We’re living in interesting times in our country,” the Golden State Warriors guard said. “Hopefully, with her on the roster, we’ll win the election. It’s a big deal, to say the least.”

Before the 2020 election, Curry and his wife Ayesha revealed that they would vote for Joe Biden over Trump that year.

“We want to make sure our children live in a safe, happy, healthy and fair nation, and that’s why this election matters,” Ayesha said as she began the video.

“We’re voting for Joe Biden,” Steph said.

Curry has also had some clashes with Trump in the past, turning down the opportunity to visit the White House during his previous term as president in 2017.

Trump responded by rescinding his invitation to Golden State’s NBA championship-winning team on Twitter (now X).

However, Curry isn’t the only member of the U.S. Olympic basketball team appearing at this week’s Democratic National Convention.

Monday Night Steve Kerr, Curry’s head coach for both Team USA and Team USA. Warriorsappeared on stage to support Harris and Tim Walz as the next president and vice president.

Taking the stage at the United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls (the team with which Kerr won three consecutive championships between 1996 and 1998), the 58-year-old addressed the convention delegates in a rousing speech.

Yet while the overarching message of the coach’s speech was a call for unity, he couldn’t resist firing a shot across the aisle.

As he said goodbye in Chicago, Kerr issued a warning to Trump just as he would to his opponents on the court, referring to Curry’s iconic celebration in Paris this month.

“After the results are counted that night (Nov. 5), in the words of the great Steph Curry, we’ll be able to say to Donald Trump, ‘Good night,'” he concluded, channeling his Warriors star persona by making a sleeping gesture.

Curry recently performed his signature “Night Night” celebration in Paris during the Olympic gold medal game against the host country, a triumph that Kerr said encapsulated core American ideals.

“The last time I was in a full basketball stadium was in Paris, France,” he said. “Nine days ago,Some of the best players on Earth – 12 incredible American men – teamed up to win Olympic gold, and the next night, I was back in that same building on June 12 to watch more of the best players on Earth – our incredible American women – do the same.

‘I can’t think of a better metaphor for what this country is about than the way Team USA came together at the Olympics.

“We had players from all over our wonderful country, players who have trained and fought tirelessly, shedding tears trying to beat each other their entire careers, joining forces to wear the red, white and blue. And when we won, the American flag flew to the rafters and the national anthem played, gold medals hung around the necks of our players, whose hands were held over their hearts, it was the proudest moment of my life.”
