Rock legend Jimmy Barnes has suffered another health scare after undergoing open heart surgery and a hip replacement.

The 68-year-old Cold Chisel founder took to social media on Saturday to announce he was canceling the final shows of his current Hell of a Time solo tour.

Jimmy told fans he needed hip surgery after experiencing severe pain following a series of shows in New Zealand.

The star who underwent open-heart surgery last year following a hip replacement in 2022 has been looking ahead to the Cold Chisel 50th anniversary tour scheduled for October.

“I have some bad news, unfortunately,” Jimmy said in his Facebook post.

‘I had a twinge in my hip as I was leaving Dunedin (New Zealand) on Thursday morning and late last night the pain was unbearable so I went to hospital.

‘The doctors have recommended corrective medical treatment as soon as possible, followed by physiotherapy treatment to fix the problem. These doctors don’t beat around the bush!

“If all goes according to plan, I am expected to make a full recovery in six weeks.”

Jimmy continued: ‘However, as a result of this unexpected surgery, my solo shows in August and September will be affected.

‘Ticket holders will be contacted with more information in the coming days once we have new plans in place.

‘As you know, I hate disappointing people, but I will never compromise on the quality of my performances either. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you all (I HATE changing gigs!), but thank you for your understanding.’

The post included a photo of Jimmy giving a thumbs up from his hospital bed as his wife Jane poses next to him.

Jimmy’s cancelled shows include concerts in Wyong, Toowoomba, Thirroul, Canberra and the Sydney Opera House.

Last month it seemed that Jimmy was on the mend following the shocking health scare he suffered last year, which forced him to undergo open-heart surgery.

The singer looked to be in top form as he worked out in a boxing ring.

While on holiday with his wife Jane in Thailand, he shared a photo on Instagram in which he posed in the gym of his luxury hotel.

The Working Class Man singer was all smiles in the sweet picture as he clowned around for the camera by raising his arms in a boxer position, as he jokingly prepared to train.

In the photo he looked healthy and confident, as he flashed his signature cheeky grin at the camera.

Jimmy captioned the photo with some telling words: ‘When you’re in hotels and in transit, it’s great to keep exercise and movement going.

“This is the first hotel gym I’ve found with a Thai boxing ring. I imagine I’ll be having another hip replacement… Maybe not… I think my wife Jane will give it a try.”

Late last year, Jimmy suffered a life-threatening infection that attacked his heart; he then underwent successful open-heart surgery.

A team of specialists discovered that his body was failing because an infection in his blood was causing endocarditis, a potentially fatal inflammation of the heart.

When he was rushed into the operating room for open-heart surgery, his doctors told him he had only hours to live: In a marathon seven-hour surgery, doctors successfully replaced his damaged valves and repaired his heart.

Eight months later, Barnes’ recovery is going well and he recently announced that his band Cold Chisel will embark on a national tour later this year.

In June, promoters announced further shows for the tour that has been dubbed ‘The Big Five-0’, featuring frontman Jimmy Barnes and bandmates Ian Moss, Phil Small and Don Walker.

The tour proved to be a box office success after Chisel Chisel’s management announced that 150,000 tickets had been sold across 16 concerts nationwide.
