Denmark’s King Frederik delighted royal fans by getting involved in several Olympic sports while showing his support for his national teams.

The 56-year-old European champion was shown taking part in BMX cycling, table tennis, hammer throwing and clay pigeon shooting with Olympic athletes in a series of videos on social media this week.

On Tuesday, the Danish Royal Family’s official Instagram revealed that Denmark will send 135 athletes to compete in 20 categories at the Paris Olympics next week.

The Instagram Reel showed the King surprising table tennis players Jonathan Groth, Anders Lind, Martin Buch Andersen and Tobias Rasmussen in the middle of one of their practices.

After greeting the players, King Frederick was challenged to a match against one of the team members.

Although King demonstrated natural talent, he struggled to keep up with the Olympians and accidentally missed the board on a handful of occasions.

However, Frederik seemed to take things in good spirits and later watched in amazement as the team competed against each other.

The next day, the Royal Family’s Instagram shared a video of King Frederik trying his hand at hammer throwing.

During his visit to the training camp, the King’s practice was supervised by Katrine Koch Jacobsen, who is the first hammer thrower Denmark has sent to the Olympics.

Frederik began by studying Katrine’s technique before trying it himself without the hammer.

Once Katrine was happy with her progress, Frederik picked up the hammer and continued to fine-tune her form.

The video ends with Frederik throwing the hammer against a wall covered by a sheet.

After receiving Katrine’s compliments, the King joked that he didn’t need to try it a second time.

On Thursday, the Royal Family shared a video of King Frederik’s visit to Amager, where he watched BMX rider Malene Kejlstrup train.

Although the royal did try out a BMX bike, he avoided all the jumps on the course, preferring to follow a smooth race track.

The caption read: ‘Malene Kejlstrup is a former U23 World Champion and European Champion, and has recently been working towards goals to prepare for the Paris Olympics.’

Watching from the sidelines, the King looked suitably impressed as Malene made her way around the course.
