LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese congratulated Iowa rival Caitlin Clark for breaking the NCAA women’s scoring record in a Thursday night game against Michigan.
Clark scored her eighth point of the night with a 3-pointer from the logo to officially surpass the record set by Washington’s Kelsey Plum in 2017.
“Congratulations @CaitlinClark22,” Reese said. ‘KEEP BREAKING RECORDS AND MAKING HISTORY!’
Reese and Clark had a tense meeting in last year’s NCAA Women’s National Championship game.
With LSU up late, it was Reese who waved his hand in front of his face as he looked at Clark. Later, she was seen pointing at her ring finger when the Tigers beat Clark’s Hawkeyes for the championship.

One of her college basketball rivals, Angel Reese, congratulated her on the achievement.
Clark made a jumper with the Hawkeyes logo to seal the record.
Clark had made the hand-waving gesture earlier in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
According to Reese after the title game, he made those gestures because of a “lack of respect” on Clark’s part.
“I was waiting,” Reese said on ESPN’s postgame show last April.
“Caitlin Clark is a great player, no doubt, but I don’t take disrespect lightly.
‘She disrespected Alexis (Morris) and my daughters, South Carolina, they are my SEC girls too.
‘You are not going to disrespect them either. I wanted to pick his pocket, but I had a moment at the end of the game and he was in my bag. “I was in my moment.”
Clark addressed those comments and said Reese should not be criticized for them.
“We’re all competitive,” Clark said. “We all show our emotions in a different way.”
‘Angel is a tremendous, tremendous player. I have nothing but respect for her.
‘I love his game, the way he rebounds and scores the ball is absolutely incredible. I’m a big fan of her. Even the whole LSU team, the way they played. I don’t think there should be any criticism for what she did.
“Honestly, I didn’t watch it while the game was going on and like I said, I haven’t been on social media at all.”
Reese and Clark notably met last April in the national title game, where Reese mocked Clark.
Clark said she didn’t notice Reese’s mannerisms and said she shouldn’t be criticized.
Others in the sports world were quick to congratulate Clark on social media.
‘She has made history! Shout out to @CaitlinClark22, the new NCAA women’s basketball all-time leading scorer,” tennis icon Billie Jean King wrote on Twitter.
WNBA team owner and Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady, who watched his alma mater, Michigan, fall to Clark’s Iowa on Thursday, congratulated the Hawkeyes star.
“I just wanted to congratulate you on the record,” he said. ‘Like the rest of the country, I followed you as you chased my girl Kelsey (Plum, who plays for Brady’s Las Vegas Aces). I know she’s proud of you too. ..I’ll be watching.’
Clark may not be done with his record this season. He is just 98 points away from surpassing Pete Maravich’s all-time scoring record in Division I, regardless of gender.
