Janie Hilbert took to TikTok to share the moment she, along with brothers Wright and Luke, found out who was officially the oldest and youngest.
In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than 20 million times, the three brothers sat in front of the camera as the news aired.
It was overlaid with a caption that said, “POV, you’re a triplet and your parents waited to tell you your birth order until you turned 18.”
There was no sound on the video to hear the order revealed, but janie, Wright and Luke were all very expressive.
They gaped before covering their mouths and putting their hands on their heads in apparent disbelief.
Fortunately, the revelation ended with the trio enjoying a healthy hug together.
Since then, parents Stewart and Clay have shared with Today They decided to keep the birth order secret because the eldest son, Clayton, was three years old at the time the triplets were born.
Stewart described him as “a very literal, rule-follower” who would definitely try to implement an “older-bottle-first” regimen once the babies were born.
And so she and Clay decided to keep the request a secret.
“We just didn’t want to play their game and said, okay, let’s keep it a secret.” It will be fun.
“They won’t have to subscribe to any of the stereotypes of older, middle, younger… all of that.”
Clay added: ‘The first time they asked me, I almost said the order. It was a brilliant idea though. In retrospect, it’s been a lot of fun.”
The children’s curiosity grew over time as they began to pester their parents about birth order, but Stewart joked, “They definitely wanted to know, and that made it even more fun.”
Janie recalled how the trio had “begged and begged” but had no luck.
Following the widespread furore sparked by her first video, Janie then shared a follow-up clip to reveal the order.
Following the widespread furore sparked by her first video, Janie then shared a follow-up clip to reveal the order.
That clip, which has been viewed 2.3 million times, revealed that Wright is the oldest, followed by Luke and then Janie.
Janie admitted: ‘I didn’t want to be the youngest. “That’s the only thing I really hoped I hadn’t been waiting 18 years to be the youngest, and here we are.”
However, the revelation has not changed anything for the brothers.
‘We all just came together. We really do. Our relationship with each other is truly special.
“I don’t think much has changed, but it’s been interesting to look back on our childhood and think about whether we took on those roles naturally,” Janie shared.
