A woman has shared the heartbreaking moment she learned her mother had died at the hands of her own father after waking up to see a violent crime scene outside her window.

On December 8, 2019, Kait Granger, 27, woke up in the middle of the night to a text from her father, Michael Boal, 59, asking her to look after the dog.

Instantly, she knew something was wrong and that she would never see her mother, Bobette Everhart-Boal, 59, again.

Unfortunately, his hunch turned out to be correct, as he woke up to a crime scene outside his apartment after his father hit his mother in the head with a blood pressure gauge before shooting her when she came home from a Christmas party.

Kait Granger has shared the heartbreaking moment she learned her mother had been killed by her own father, after waking up to see a crime scene outside her window.

Bobette had filed for divorce from Michael in August 2023, just months before he took his own life.

After hiding for a few months after initially applying, Kait and her mother rented an apartment together in Chesterfield, Missouri, a suburb outside of St. Louis, where she grew up.

“I was sleeping the whole time so I didn’t hear anything,” Kait, who lives in St. Louis, explained in her now-viral TikTok, with more than 6.2 million views, where she shared her heartbreaking story.

“I woke up around 2 a.m. and had a very strange feeling that something was wrong,” she continued, adding that she went to her mother’s room and saw that she wasn’t there, noting that it was “weird.”

Kait had Bobette’s location on her phone, and upon looking at it she discovered that her location was in her parking lot.

“I walked over to the window, opened the blinds and saw the police cars and the lights and the crime scene tape and everything,” he recalled.

‘At the time I thought I knew, but I didn’t want to know.’

Kait walked outside but was stopped by a police officer who confirmed that it was her mother behind the crime scene tape and that she was dead.

Kait said that for as long as she can remember her father has been

Kait said that for as long as she can remember her father has been “very abusive” and that he left her and her brother letters to read after he died, but she never plans to share their contents.

They didn’t know where their father was at the time, but they learned there was a fire near a house that matched the address on their mother’s ID.

A few hours later, police confirmed that her father was in the burning property and was dead, and officers found the gun he used to kill Bobette.

As the investigation progressed, it became clear that Michael had always intended to kill Bobette and then himself.

“My father had opened a storage unit four days after my mother left in August and started moving things out of the house in there to protect them because he knew he was going to burn the house down,” she explained.

Kait said that for as long as she can remember her father has been “very abusive” and that he left her and her brother letters to read after he died, but she never plans to share them.

“The main thing is that he said it was all my fault,” Kait said. “And that I was the one to blame for destroying the family, basically.”

“I’ve come to the point of accepting that my mother is safer than ever and that’s worth all the pain and discomfort I’m feeling here right now,” the grieving daughter concluded in the devastating video.

Kait told The The New York Post She “needed” to share her story “for herself and for me.”

“A big part of this was motivating me to do things and talk about grief in a more real way,” she added.

After telling her tragic story on TikTok, Kait also launched a new series called: Let’s Not Rot, where she documents herself participating in activities and making an effort to enjoy life because her “mom would be mad if I did.”

She has since amassed more than 330,000 followers on TikTok after launching the series last year, where she shares videos of herself completing everyday tasks and activities with voiceovers and poems about grief.

Kait said the videos were a commitment she made to herself and her mother to live her best life.
