A woman who bought a premium seat on a flight criticized the airline for the lack of legroom, adding that it was the “smallest seat” she had ever been in.
Brooke Johnson, who is currently traveling in Peru, criticized Avianca, a Colombian airline, for its lack of profits.
The Avianca website states that plus seats allow customers to “enjoy more space, adjustable and reclining headrests.”
But traveler Brooke claimed it was the smallest seat she had ever encountered on a plane before.
He paid $1,200 (£955) to fly from JFK airport in New York City to Cusco in Peru, which takes around 10 hours.
She had to shell out an extra $200 because she had a skateboard and her bag was deemed “too big.”
Brooke Johnson (pictured), who is currently traveling in Peru, criticized Colombian airline Avianca for its lack of benefits and legroom.
She told her followers on instagram: ‘I normally don’t have problems flying because I’m so small that I can handle a lot of things. It just raised a lot of questions for me. Mainly, how is this possible?
‘I feel like I’m in a kangaroo pouch. I’ve never been so close to someone in my life. This is the smallest airline I have ever been on.
‘Everyone, if we go down, I don’t even have enough room for the turtles. “I will literally hit my head.”
Brooke spent almost four hours on the uncomfortable flight and wasn’t even offered a free drink, even though the tickets cost more than economy class.
On top of that, he claimed the tray “couldn’t even go down all the way” and said he couldn’t recline his seat.
The travel influencer added that there was no WiFi in the Plus cabin and that they had “no movies” for passengers to watch.
Avianca’s website says: ‘When boarding, you may encounter planes that look different inside; This is not our final experience.
‘Some already have seats: Premium, Plus and Economy; this process will be completed in the second quarter of 2024. Please note that some of our aircraft only have economy seats.’
Brooke waved at how small the seats were and said they didn’t offer her free drinks.
Other commenters on Instagram said they had similar experiences with the airline.
However, Brooke is not the only one who has had problems with Avianca, as others commented that they had similar experiences.
One wrote: ‘I had this experience on this airline last summer and I can say you are 100% not exaggerating.
‘I had an anxiety attack because it felt like the space of a coffin. My knees touch the seat in front of me and I’m 5’6”. Seriously, we all deserve better.”
Another wrote: “That’s why it’s a budget airline.”
A third commented: “(I’m) flying from Bogota to London in 2 months at 6ft 1 and 6ft 7, I have no idea it was that bad, I hope it’s a slightly bigger plane.”
A TripAdvisor review posted online last year also said: ‘We paid more for Plus seats, we weren’t willing to opt for Premium (“first class”) seats as it was only an 80 minute flight.
‘What a waste of money. There was NO extra legroom and the seats were as narrow as regular economy class.
‘Plus, you were still sitting 3 on each side of the row, with no extra space. And there was NO drink service, etc. except for a price.’
Avianca has been contacted for comment.
