Moviegoers are sharing their shock over a “twisted” theory about which character is the “real” villain in the beloved Disney-Pixar Toy Story franchise.
While many would consider the movies’ bad guys to include the rebellious boy next door Sid, the evil Emperor Zurg, the vengeful teddy bear Lotso, or the creepy Gabby Gabby doll, some believe Andy’s mother is the real villain.
Viewers pointed out that the mother was responsible for Woody and Buzz Lightyear’s main problems in the first three Toy Story films.
Film enthusiasts have been discussing which characters they view differently now as adults, and Andy’s mother was mentioned.
“When I was a kid, I thought Andy’s mom was nothing more than a supporting character in movies, who only appeared a few times per movie,” the fan said.
While many consider the Toy Story movies to be bad, including the rebellious boy next door Sid, the evil Emperor Zurg, the vengeful bear Lotso, others thought Andy’s mother was the real villain.
“She’s the type of character who is there simply because Andy needs to have a father figure in the house. She has no relevance to the plot of the movie… Or does she?
As Toy Story fans grew older, they said they began to realize that Andy’s mother’s actions set in motion the toy dramas in the first three films.
“In Toy Story, she gives Andy Buzz Lightyear, causing Woody to become jealous and the events of the movie to unfold,” they explained.
‘In Toy Story 2, she starts a garage sale, which results in Woody being robbed while trying to save another toy.
“In Toy Story 3, she takes the toys in the trash bag to the sidewalk instead of the attic, where they should have gone, and that’s how they ended up finding their way to her car to be sent to daycare.”
They admitted that Andy’s mother, whose name is unknown, “is not evil” and is “clearly a loving and caring mother.”
“However, she is the one who gets the toys into the problems they face, making her an antagonist from the toy’s point of view,” they said.
“To me, he went from being a supporting character who simply loves his children to becoming the biggest threat to the well-being of the toys.”
The theory divided moviegoers, many of whom were “blown away” by the plot.
‘Being a father myself makes her seem more evil. Every time we clean our house, we always ask our children if they want to keep a toy before we throw it away, donate it or sell it,” said one mother.
“In Toy Story 2, Andy gets Jessie and Bullseye and says, ‘New toys!’ Thanks Mom!’ As a mother, I would say, ‘Who was in my son’s room and left toys here?!’ “That’s pretty worrying,” a second agreed.
As Toy Story fans grew older, they said they began to realize that Andy’s mother’s actions set in motion the toy dramas in the first three films.
“She (and the movies) are probably the reason I treasure my kids’ toys,” said a third, while a fourth joked, “They should have called CPS on Andy’s mom because why was Molly sitting there?” in the front seat of your car?” ?!’.
However, others jumped to the character’s defense.
‘Andy put the toys in a trash bag instead of the box marked ‘Attic’ she provided. Having given him a garbage bag for the garbage, he can’t be blamed for thinking it was a garbage bag,’ someone noted.
“I think she’s just an agent of progress/time and that’s the real threat to the toys. She’s tangibly dragging Andy forward in life,” a second explained.
“If she didn’t do those things, we wouldn’t have the three best movies ever,” a third added.
