Few current NFL starting quarterbacks have had as much success as Brock Purdy over the past two seasons.

Along the way, the latest pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has established himself as the heart of the 49ers’ dynamic, talent-laden offense and one of the league’s most promising stars.

Now, as the 24-year-old signal-caller enters his third season, the question arises of where Purdy ranks among NFL starting quarterbacks.

On Tuesday, Focus on professional football Analyst Trevor Sikkema did just that, evaluating Purdy and determining the quarterback ranks 13th among the league’s 32 starters.

“I’m pretty comfortable with Purdy’s ranking on this list,” Sikkema wrote. “His consistent success from him, albeit in a very talented offense, over the last two years should not go unnoticed. His adjusted completion rate of 78.3 percent was one of the top five in 2023, which speaks to his timing and accuracy. And his 5.4 percent big-throw percentage shows that, even with below-average arm talent, he’s a good enough anticipator to make things happen.

“Purdy is also a very confident player and pushes the ball, which combats the ‘game manager’ label he often receives; he’s not just a dunk-and-dunk passer. Does he have the athletic talent of other players? No, but he is very good at his job anyway.”

The Iowa State product comes behind Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Dak Prescott, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Hurts, CJ Stroud, Jordan Love and Trevor Lawrence on Sikkema’s roster.

Purdy is coming off another phenomenal season in which he passed former 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia (4,278 yards) for the most. passing yards in a single season in franchise history with 4,280.

Over his two-year NFL career, Purdy has thrown for 5,654 yards and 44 touchdowns with a passer rating of 111.4.

The quarterback’s consistency has propelled San Francisco to four playoff victories, including the 49ers’ victory in the 2024 NFC Championship, and an appearance in Super Bowl LVIII.

With a complete offseason of preparation and healthy as the team’s QB1, all signs point to another productive season from Purdy, and PFF is unlikely to object.
