The outage that affected Facebook, Messenger and Instagram has sparked countless conspiracy theories about what caused the platforms to stop working for 1.5 hours.

Elon Musk’s X was inundated with conspiracy theories about what caused Facebook, Instagram and Messenger to stop operating for at least an hour and a half.

Many of the posts suggested that liberals were trying to prevent Super Tuesday from happening, but others believed they may have been supporters of Nikki Haley because the presidential candidate ran ads on radio, print and television.

Conspiracy theorists flocked to X to accuse Meta’s outage of “silenced” them

Former President Donald Trump will face Republican candidate Nikki Haley in the Super Tuesday primary to determine who will face President Joe Biden in November.

Super Tuesday voting is taking place in most US states, including Vermont, Virginia, Alaska, Maine, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Meta’s social media platforms went down for about two hours, locking many users out of their accounts, with people questioning whether this was a “voting coincidence or a conspiracy.”

The outage affected other countries, including the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe, China, Australia and Mexico.

The posts claimed the interruption was a way to give Nikki Haley a lead over former President Donald Trump in the polls.

An internal Facebook source told DailyMail.com that the company’s internal systems were down and may have caused Tuesday’s outage.

But the fact that this was a global blackout didn’t stop American conspiracy theorists from rushing to claim that this was a blatant attempt to hinder their right to free speech.

“There was a nationwide AT&T blackout recently and now FB and Instagram have experienced a global blackout… it’s not a coincidence and it’s all planned,” one person wrote on Facebook once they were able to log back into their account.

‘They continue to warn about cyberattacks and possible EMP attacks. “All this is part of the New World Order that will arrive soon,” they added.

For those who don’t know, the New World Order is a conspiracy theory that believes the government has an agenda to quietly create a totalitarian world power.

Other users applauded the ridiculous conspiracy theory, with one person writing on X: “This is stupid.” WTF Does Facebook or Instagram have anything to do with voting?

‘You show up and vote (or mail in your ballot, in which case you’ve probably already voted).

‘They are not related. It’s not all one big conspiracy, people. Take it easy!’

X users accused Meta’s outage of trying to interfere in the presidential race, with another person writing: ‘Facebook and Instagram go down on Super Tuesday because @realDonaldTrump is destroying the polls.’

“It’s not even a conspiracy anymore, they’re just doing it in front of our faces.”

Social media users are linking the Meta outage to the AT&T outage on February 23, claiming the conspiracy extends to the phone company that left millions of people unable to make calls or send texts without WiFi.

‘CONSPIRACY THEORY! FB just experienced an outage/outage on a TUESDAY. Some reports say that HACKERS are preparing – PRACTICING – for the upcoming elections also called SUPER TUESDAY… unconfirmed reports of course…” one person wrote on Facebook.

They added: ‘In this DIGITAL / WI-FI / INTERNET era, we must always be vigilant about our personal information/data and our personal safety. Stay alert. Stay safe. Stay alive.’

A running theory that Taylor Swift is pressuring people to vote against Trump was exemplified after the blackout, cementing people’s original belief that she is trying to influence the presidential election.

Swift posted a message on her story, telling people to go to the polls and saying, ‘I want to remind you to vote for the people who best represent you in power.’

“If you haven’t already, make a plan to vote today.”

The outage reportedly occurred shortly after Swift’s post, with people accusing the pop star of being against right-wing voters, saying she’s “stuck in a debilitating mindset.”
