An influencer and financial expert has sparked a wave of controversy after making a seemingly innocent comment about her experience during pregnancy.
Victoria Devine, an Australian financial columnist and podcast co-host, welcomed her first child, Harvey, in March.
The mother of one is known for sharing her financial and business advice on her podcast She’s on the Money, but she recently opened up about her pregnancy with her son and the cost of having a baby.
Speaking on the podcast, Devine made a divisive comment about taking prenatal vitamins before conceiving to ensure women have a “good quality baby.”
“My doctor recommended that I start taking prenatal medications at least 12 months before trying (to conceive),” she said.
‘If possible, because obviously that way all the vitamins and minerals and other things that enter your body can settle in your organism and you can increase your levels, because pregnancy demands a lot from you.
“But there are also things like iron and folic acid, which are very important for pregnant women and are packed with elements that ensure that the baby you are carrying is of very good quality.”
While prenatal vitamins can be essential when trying to conceive, as it’s important to ensure your body is getting the nutrients it needs to develop a healthy baby, Devine’s comment about “a good quality baby” sparked a debate in the video post, which was later deleted.

According to the account of the control body @influencer.updates.auOne user claimed that despite taking prenatal vitamins, her newborn baby had spina bifida.
Another user made the sarcastic comment that “it’s a shame” that vitamins don’t make her “a good mother,” while another claimed that “it’s not nice to see babies with genetic defects who aren’t ‘good quality babies.'”
Even if you eat a varied diet, there are certain nutrients that are impossible to get in adequate amounts from food, and that’s where prenatal supplements are important.
Devine has since apologized for the comments, writing on her Instagram: ‘I wanted to share my sincerest apologies for a post that was shared last week, I made a comment in jest without thinking about the ways it could be interpreted.
‘As someone who has struggled with pregnancy loss, I am acutely aware of how precious life is and how out of our control the pregnancy experience can be.

‘To clarify, I was reflecting on my own experiences and my desire to hold on to everything I could to help me improve my chances of getting pregnant.’
“I am very sorry for my poor choice of words and, as always, I am grateful for the kindness and responsibility you share with me,” she concluded her statement.
